Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: The Go-Go's made music on their own terms and gave voice to a generation caught between the bra-burning irreverence of the seventies and the me-first decadence of the eighties. Anthems like "We Got the Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed," and "Vacation" are an indelible part of our collective soundtrack, but more than that, they speak to the power and possibility of youth. Inspired by punk but not yoked to it, the Go-Go's broke important musical ground by combining cheeky lyrics, clever hooks, and catchy melodies, perfectly capturing what it feels like to be young and female in the process.
But beyond the Go-Go's effervescent sound and cheerful pop stylings, a darkness underlies many of their lyrics and melodies, hinting at the heartache and frustration inherent in growing up. In other words, plenty to inspire murder and mayhem.
With a foreword by Go-Go's co-founder Jane Wiedlin and original stories by 25 kick-ass authors, editor Holly West has put together an all-star crime fiction anthology inspired by one of the most iconic bands of the eighties and beyond.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I LOVE 80s music and was a huge Go-Gos fan back then (still am). Throw in the mystery aspect of this anthology makes it definitely one I want to check out.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK????
I'm a big 80's music fan but this is one group I never listened to for some reason!
ReplyDeleteI liked them a lot but played the same songs over and over.
DeleteThis is so cool -- When I first started reading the blurb I thought this was a memoir and it's most definitely not. This is such a cool premise -- and band -- and I am definitely looking forward to your review!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's done well and I know it's for a charity so I like that aspect as well.
DeleteI remember some of their songs. This really sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree. My favorite will always be Our Lips are Sealed.
DeleteThis sounds really unique! I didn't listen to much 80's music. We lived overseas part of the time and I had all my children during the 80's is actually kind of a blur to me...lol. I hope you get to read it and I'll see how you like it!
ReplyDeleteI love 80's music and Mr. Barb is more a fan of 90's. Makes for an interesting music collection.
DeleteOk, this sounds so unique! I'm not sure if this will work or not, but hopefully you can read it and convince me😁
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely curious if it can be pulled off.
DeleteSounds like an intriguing read!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marti!
DeleteSounds like an interesting read! I love 80s music too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun read. I'm waiting for some Marissa Meyer books I bought to finish off a couple of series.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I need to read some of hers. I think I own the whole Lunar Chronicles and liked Cinder, but never continued.
DeleteThis sounds really cool. I hope it's as good as it sounds!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThis one sounds so different and fun! Hope you thoroughly enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie.
DeleteI love the Go-Go, I believe my mom still have the records at her house.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that they are using the songs. I only read one book based off a song and it was pretty good. :) I hope you enjoy it.
The Go-Gos rock! I can't help but think of the time Rory bought her mom a signed copy and lost it on the bus on Gilmore Girls. Now that I think of it, it's been a while since I've watched any Gilmore Girls. Might have to remedy that.
DeleteOh, I loved their music! This anthology sounds very good. I'm going to watch for it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this one. It's different than anything I usually read.
ReplyDeleteYea I think that's why I'm so interested.
DeleteI am loving everything '80s these days! I will have to check out The Go-Go's and find out what they are all about. I hope that you enjoy the book! :)
ReplyDelete80s music is awesome!
DeleteOh my gosh really? I must get this book!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Hope we both love it!
DeleteNever was big on 80's music even though that was the era I grew up in but this still sounds pretty cool! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the quirkiness of it. Now a days I actually listen to more 70s music but I'm still an 80's gal.
DeleteSo fun! I love 80s music, too!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteNot my kind of read, personally, but I love the concept!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
It is a rather cool concept. And the proceeds go to charity so there's that.
DeleteI think I was born in the wrong generation since I love music with 80s and 90s vibes rather than those mainstream ones today. This book sounds good, great choice! :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Barb is a big 90s fan. I'm not big on grunge but do like alternative.
DeleteThis sounds really interesting! I'll have to keep my eye out!
ReplyDeleteCool and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteHmm -- I'm not really familiar with the content, but the idea seems unique! I hope it works for you and that you're able to read it soon! :)
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
Thanks Lindsi!
DeleteThis sounds so cool. I loved the Go-Gos when I was a teenager.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteYou find the most interesting books! I do remember the Go-Gos but I would have to wait for some reviews before picking this one up.
ReplyDeleteIt's a gift! Not really, more like luck.
Deleteyay I'm a child of the 80s too so Yes to the 80s music! :)
ReplyDeleteKindred spirits I tell ya!
DeleteWow, this one sounds really interesting. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alicia!
DeleteGreat CWW pick this is actually the first time I have heard about this book, I hope you enjoy reading it when you get the chance Barb. Thank you so much for stopping by my CWW post.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you to Katiria!
DeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come
ReplyDeleteacross a blog that's both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something which not enough people
are speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy I came across this
in my search for something regarding this.
