This week I am sharing with you 5 books I really enjoyed which were outside my reading comfort zone. I'm a pretty eclectic reader so they may be a stretch but I'll share them anyway.
This was one of the first historical fiction books I really read and it helped me realize how much I love that genre from time to time. Of course, Gothic and creepy don't hurt.
This is a tad more dystopian and more science fiction than I usually read. I really enjoyed it and should probably finish out the trilogy.
I read quite a few thrillers but very few are police procedural ones. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this and its sequel but man, will the 3rd book hurry up and release!
I don't read a lot of women's fiction or chick lit but I had to jump on the bandwagon for this one.
You could add the whole trilogy here. It tends to have more romance that I usually like in my fantasy/paranormal books but it was done so well that I really it enjoyed.
Like I said, I read so many different genres that this was hard. Hope you had an easier time than I did!
The Flat Share sounds like a good read for sure. I don't read much women's fiction either, but some of it is amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I took a chance on it and it really paid off. I really enjoyed it and it was a nice break to all the thrillers/horror I read.
DeleteI didn't even try to come up with a list for this one because I'm a bit of an electic reader and read books from a lot of different genres, too. (Although I do have my favorite genres!)
ReplyDeleteI have my faves but like you, I read a lot of different things which did make it really hard.
DeleteThe Discovery of Witches series is a little outside my comfort zone too, I think, probably due to the romance element, but... I've seen you and Stormi (I think it was you guys) rave about this, and I love the premise- lost manuscripts and paranormal creatures. I should read this.
ReplyDeleteYou should at least try the first book and see if you like it. The TV series is pretty good too!
DeleteI'm hoping to get to The Flatshare soon, seems like everyone is loving it!
ReplyDeleteYea I usually get burned by hyped books but not in this case.
DeleteI've been so curious about A Discovery of Witches but it's SO LONG! Maybe I should just take the plunge.
ReplyDeleteYes you should!
DeleteI have only read one of these but I think I loved Unsub just as much as you did. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!
ReplyDeleteI know. The second book in that series was good as well. I think the third one is slated for February.
DeleteToo much romance is outside my comfort zone too, though I find if I'm in the right mood for it, it can turn out pretty well!

Same here.
DeleteThe Flatshare! I want to tell eveeeryone to read it! You've reminded me I need to get to the other Gardiner books in that seires -- I think I read the 2nd one, and I need to get to the first one!
ReplyDeleteYes, you still have time to catch up before the third one comes out.
DeleteI really interested in reading A Discovery of Witches - glad you enjoyed all of these books that were outside your comfort zone!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alice!
DeleteI couldn't motivate myself to find the books for this week's topic so I didn't post a TTT. I like your list - it gives me a few ideas that I could have gone with but - oh well.
ReplyDeleteHistory is a great genre to read in sometimes - I don't read it all the time but every now and again it just hits the spot.
Lynn :D
I feel that way about historical books as well. Of course it helps if they have that Gothic feel to them.
DeleteIt's always great when we take that stuttering step outside the comfort zone and find something really good! I'm dipping my toes more into thrillers and SF now and even the odd crime novel is popping up!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll find some new hidden gems. I can't wait for October because I have a new Hunter Shea arc just dying to be read!
DeleteOoh, the Taxidermist's Daughter sounds really good. Specifically for the "decaying old house" bit and the fact that I have sort of a morbid fascination with old taxidermy myself. I want to be spookened!
ReplyDeleteIt was really good and quite Gothic. I definitely recommend it.
DeleteI've seen more people mention the Mortician's Daughter. Must keep an eye out on that one.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like it!
DeleteYou have made me so much more hopeful for A Discovery of Witches! I also am having a hard time believing that it will be October already next month and I'll be reading it. Where did the year go?! 😯
ReplyDeleteTime flies huh? I really hope you enjoy it.
