It Just Didn't Work For Me

TITLE: Stranger Things: The Other Side (Vol. 1)
AUTHOR: Jody Houser, Stefano Martino & Keith Champagne
PUBLISHER: Dark Horse Books
PUBLISHING DATE: May 7, 2019

FROM GOODREADS: When Will Byers finds himself in the Upside Down, an impossible dark parody of his own world, he's understandably frightened. But that's nothing compared with the fear that takes hold when he realizes what's in that world with him!

MY THOUGHTS:  So basically I love Stranger Things and I thought this would be a good filler considering I binged Season 3 way to fast and am now longing for season 4.  This graphic novel is supposed to cover Will's time during season 1 or basically what happened to him in the Upside Down.  I thought that would be interesting and that I needed it in my life.  Turns out I didn't.  I really did not find that it filled in much of a gap.  Probably because I never really thought there was a gap.  Also, I wasn't overly enthused about the artwork either.

I don't think I will continue on with the graphic novel/comic part of this franchise. I'd say if you're a huge fan you might want to give it a try but I consider myself a huge fan and I was left feeling "meh."

RATING: 2 PAWS

  1. I *just* finished season 3 and have been wondering what to do with myself now that it's finished... and clearly, I won't be reading this. What a pity :(

    1. There are actually some novels that have been written and I have copies of both of them. I hope they fare better.

    1. Yea, actually I think the problem may have been that the series did a good job telling Mike's story so there wasn't much to fill in.

  3. Sounds like a bummer all around. What a wasted opportunity :(

  4. I'll probably skip this. I'm not a fan of comics/graphic novels to begin with anyway.

    1. I like graphic novels but admit I go in phases. I won't be picking anymore of these up though.

  5. Oh that's a bummer. Seems like they can't get the graphic novel side of the franchise going...

    1. I know. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. At least it was a library book and I didn't buy it.

  8. Yeah, I haven't seen any great reviews for this. Even the ones that were good the reviewers were making way too many excuses for it. 😛

    1. I think it would be hard to even make excuses for it.

  9. Yeah, I love the series but this really doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Sorry you didn't enjoy it though.

  10. DARNIT! We've found another that we didn't agree on! :) I do see your point though. It was pretty lacking. I think I loved it so much because of the little overlaps, but now that I'm thinking more about it... I would be willing to bed my rating would change next time I read it.
