January Down for the Count!

I can't believe that January is over already.  Seems it went by kind of fast right?  However, since I think January and February can be rather depressing because of all the winter weather, it's a great time to spice things up with some good reading.  I'm thrilled to say I read 12 books in January (although one is technically for a February project so you won't see it here).  I'm so pleased with that and hope I can keep up the pace.  Anyway, here's the overview with a link to my reviews if you are interested and missed them.

Good Girls Lie: J.T. Ellison (3/5)
A Beginning at the End: Mike Chen (5/5)
We Are Monsters: Brian Kirk (3/5)
Cold Nose, Warm Heart: Mara Wells (3/5)
The Little Bookshop on the Seine: Rebecca Raisen (4/5)
Husband Material: Emily Belden (4/5)
We Met in December: Rosie Curtis (4/5)
Bad Dog: Mike Boldt (4/5)
The Ghosts of Curmudgeon Avenue: Samantha Henthorn (3/5)
The Cold Dish - Longmire #1: Craig Johnson (3/5)

So looking bad there were quite a few 3/5 ratings this month.  I guess that's not bad but I expected better from some of these. I'd say my most disappointing book was Cold Nose, Warm Heart - not because I didn't like it, but because I expected so much more.  I would have never guessed it but my favorite read of the month turned out to be A Beginning at the End.  Who would have guessed?

So how you your month?  What was your favorite book?

  2. Wow, I'm jealous of your 12 books😁 I think I read 8 or 9 but I haven't counted yet.

    1. Well, two were actually pretty short so I know that helped.

  3. January felt like a year long I swear. My goal this year is to read a book a day and I ended up hitting that goal luckily. I had a lot of three star reads too, which is fine because they weren't bad, but I agree that I expected more from a few of these books.
My favorite was Game by Barry Lyga, it's the second in the Jasper Dent series and my first 5 star read of the year (And only so far, unless you count a craft book about Alice in Wonderland)

    1. I tend to always think January is a year long. It seems like after the holidays and all the year end rush, when things slow down, they REALLY slow down. I've heard of Lyga but not read anything by him and wow, a book a day - you are awesome.

  4. 12 books is amazing! GR says I read 9 which surprises me as I feel like I flaked out the last two weeks. 3 is better than 2, 1's and & DNF's I suppose but I hope your February is better!

  5. My favorite read of January was probably The Admiral which surprised me by how good it was and how much I liked it. :)

  7. I always feel like 3 stars is good but not great - here's hoping for many 4 and 5 star reads in February!

  8. I am really impressed by how much reading you were able to do with a new pup in the house. It is disappointing to have so many 3 star reads but that is how it goes at times.

    1. I'm amazed myself. It's not easy. I find Kindle books easier right now because with Apollo I'm constantly picking up a book and putting it down to let him out or see what he is into!

  9. I'm really depressed about the winter we are having. Non stop howling winds since November with only the odd day of respite in between along with driving rain at least a few days a week! I usually enjoy winter but not this year.

It's a pity there were so many 3 star reviews but at least it didn't go any lower than that. Hopefully your challenge will bring us both a few higher ratings this month!

    1. Your weather sounds horrible. I don't like wind much. It tends to freak me out when it gets really bad. Hope we both have great February numbers!
