What's Happening (02-15-20)...

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So I hope everyone out there had a great week and if you celebrated Valentine's Day, that you had fun.  As I type this (on Friday) it's super cold here.  We also had so much rain in the past week the pups and I almost started building an ark.

Speaking of pups, they are fine but I had a mild (who am I kidding, it was probably major) heart attack this week.  Cass and Apollo were playing and then Cass bit him.  Apollo screamed like he was being killed and ran and hid under the table.  I was home alone and freaked out and almost killed myself getting to them.  Apollo was fine - a small puncture on his arm which didn't even bleed.  Cass was fine - but grumpy because I then wouldn't let them play for two days.  Mr. Barb - he said he was surprised it didn't happen sooner.  Cass loves Apollo but Apollo does pester the hell out him.  Me, I wasn't fine.  I immediately had flashbacks to the whole Booker/Cass incident.  It was nothing like that but tell my psyche that.  Needless to say, three days later and they are playing like the always did and neither are worse for wear.  I didn't blame Cass but really hope it doesn't happen again.  Mr. Barb said that the pup needed put in his place but it broke my heart to hear him cry out (of course he can be rather dramatic - he whines and grunts and if you don't give him enough room in bed or on the couch).  As you can see here, Apollo is fine :)

So on to better things.  We FINALLY watched Doctor Sleep and I LOVED IT.   I know it gets mixed reviews but I think it was awesome.  It was somewhat different than the book (which I also really enjoyed) and fit in better with The Shining movie rather than The Shining book.  So basically my mind considers them two different series - the book series and the movie series.  If you've seen/read them all, do you feel me or am I totally crazy?  We are also still watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina 3 which I think is REALLY out there this season.  It is getting better the further along it goes though.

I have a three day weekend so I hope to get a lot of reading done.  Here's what's up - A Murderous Relation which I am about 10% in and loving, The Garden of Bewitchment and The Guest List.  I'm suffering from a bad case of I-Want-to-Read-Everything.

I also got a few digital review copies and I'm thrilled for all of them.  I keep hoping I'll find a Riley Sager book which knocks it out of the ballpark for me so I'm going to give Home Before Dark a chance. I've seen some of my favorite bloggers featured Fractured Tide so I'm really curious about it.  And you know I love a good thriller set in the snow, thus why I grabbed Snow.

So what have you all been up to?  Read or watch anything you'd highly recommend?

  1. Oh poor Apollo! Though I suspect stories like yours are a pretty common occurrence, especially when you have big dogs that don't know their own strength and a young pups who are just having fun and have no clue how annoying they can be sometimes, lol. I don't blame you for freaking out though, I would have panicked too, hearing one of my dogs cry like that!

    1. I'm sure they are and I'm just really sensitive to them. I know Cass has to get annoyed at times. We try to run interference when we start to pick up on it. Wish I could bottle that pup's energy!

  2. That must have been so scary for you, remembering what happened with Cass and Booker T. I would've been ready to collapse too. You can do without incidents like that happening for sure. I hope things are ok.

Ooh some good covers there! I like the covers for Fractured Tide and Snow. It's not my kind of read but I always like the Deanna Raybourn style of book cover.

    1. I love that series so much. I never knew I'd like historical mysteries. Guess that's why sometimes it pays off to read outside your comfort zone huh?

  3. It's very upsetting when your dogs get into a fight. We have had similar things happen over the years, very minor but it still hurts to have it happen. Hopefully Apollo just needed the one reminder to behave and that will be it! Enjoy your three days, I know I will!

  4. Aww poop pup but I get it. My daughter brought over a puppy a while back that she was thinking about keeping (her rescue was pregnant when she got her and had puppies that she found homes for except one) and my falcor didn't get along with him at all.

    1. Cass likes Apollo but he just lost his patience. He was so lonely after Booker T passed away. It has done wonders for him having a puppy in the home.

  7. I am glad Apollo is okay after his run in with big brother! :) You have some cool books here! Snow sound cool! I have been hesitant to try Riley Sager after DNFing FInal Girls...lol

    1. I totally forgot you DNF'ed that one. I remember now I told you how it ended. It wasn't a good sign when my favorite character turned out to be the killer!

  8. It got cold here too- yikes it's like 10. Sorry to hear about the Cass/ Apollo incident. Glad it wasn't more serious but I totally get how you feel- that would definitely be scary. you just never know sometimes when an animal is gonna say okay I'm setting a boundary now lol. It's nice that they seem to be okay afterwards though.

I LOVE the look of fractured Tide!

    1. 10 degrees is definitely cold. I love the cover of Fracture Tide as well. Guess what book I grabbed from the library? It has a shark on the front :)

  10. When I had both dogs they scared me sometimes because they could get carried away. Lassie actually bit Quigley and punctured his leg. Had to keep it open so it would drain. I'm glad Apollo didn't get seriously injured. Love that picture!

    1. We had a wound like that when Cass and Booker got into their epic battle. It was scary watching it drain!

  11. We hate it even when our Lulu is frightened by a loud noise. She cries out sometimes when we cut her toenails and it hurts us even when we know it isn't possibly hurting her.

Nice book haul! The only one I know is the Raybourn one. It's a series I want to read but haven't managed yet. I don't read horror though.

We also had the rainy and then the cold. It's not bad now for a few days but then it will be cold again for a couple.

Have a great week and enjoy your new reads!

  12. Oh no, poor Apollo! Mr. Barb is right, though. Dogs have their own social order, and as a pup, if Apollo hasn't learned it yet, Cass will teach it to him. Sounds like Cass didn't mean to hurt him, but was just trying to teach him a lesson. Doesn't make it any easier to hear the poor pup cry, though.

I have a three-day weekend, tooooo. And gosh am I excited. Our plans are pretty similar. xD Here's to hoping we get to read all of the books! Or, you know, at least *some* of the books would be nice.

We just started watching Locke & Key yesterday. I haven't read the books yet (just realized they're on KU, so I'll maybe do that this week), but the Netflix series is really good so far, if you like something a little dark and spooky.

    1. I still haven't started Locke & Key but I'm pretty sure I'll love it. The graphic novels are really good. We did manage to finish Sabrina which is good.

  13. I haven't watched anything yet, but I am hanging out for Hunters on Amazon Prime here in Australia. And, still enjoying the X-Files! Went to an amazing concert on sunday night -- QUEEN at a benefit concert for those affected by the fire here. Ohh, just started Dervla Mctiernan's newest and hmmmm. What else -- sweet tooth cravings are driving me nuts tonight lol! Apollo under those toys is the CUTEST! I'm glad he and Cass are doing okay and playing together again.

    1. I want to watch Hunters as well. I bet that was an awesome concert. I think Adam Lambert does a good job filling in for Mercury.

  14. Oh wow poor Apollo! And poor you! I think many pups do that to older siblings. :) Hope he learned his lesson and it doesn't happen again when they are back at playing together :) I have to say I love the fact that Apollo is kinda dramatic :) It makes him cuter :) You made me watch Sabrina! I AM LOVING IT TY!

    1. Well then you'd love him. He is very cute and adorable - especially right before he bites you. I'm glad you're liking Sabrina.

  15. Well, that sounds like Cass was telling Apollo where to draw the line. Glad to hear Apollo is okay though - it's still upsetting even if it is normal dog behaviour.
I enjoyed Dr Sleep too - watched it a couple of weeks ago - unfortunately I never read the book (even though I rushed out to buy it) so I have no idea how well it was adapted.
The Guest List was really good. A very quick read.

  16. Every once in a while we still hear a yelp that doesn't sound like everyone wrestling is having fun. The puppy is bigger than our Molly now but they are all close to the same size so we usually check on them and then let them get back to it. I do understand that moment of fear though especially when they are little and I didn't go through your situation. I hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks Carole. Most days Cass loves to play and I could tell he was ticked because we kind of didn't let them for a few days. I keep reminding myself that dogs don't hold onto things like humans but it's hard.
