Can't Wait Wednesday (312)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

FROM GOODEADS: Meet Leda Foley: devoted friend, struggling travel agent, and inconsistent psychic. When Leda, sole proprietor of Foley's Flights of Fancy, impulsively re-books Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt’s flight, her life changes in ways she couldn’t have predicted.

After watching his original plane blow up from the safety of the airport, Grady realizes that Leda’s special abilities could help him with a cold case he just can’t crack.

Despite her scattershot premonitions, she agrees for a secret reason: her fiancé’s murder remains unsolved. Leda’s psychic abilities couldn’t help the case several years before, but she's been honing her skills and drawing a crowd at her favorite bar's open-mic nights, where she performs Klairvoyant Karaoke—singing whatever song comes to mind when she holds people’s personal effects. Now joined by a rag-tag group of bar patrons and pals alike, Leda and Grady set out to catch a killer—and learn how the two cases that haunt them have more in common than they ever suspected.

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  I had NO idea Cherie Priest had a new book coming out.  I stumbled across this one Monday on Netgalley and was shocked.  She is one of my faves and I can't wait to read this one (I also got approved about an hour after I sent the request but I couldn't help featuring it anyway!)

CASSIUS'S PICK:

FROM GOODREADS:
Ruby Heartwood has always lived a life on the move. As a traveling psychic, she makes her living working at carnivals and festivals and circuses around New England. It's a life Ruby has made peace with--settling in one place has never been for her. She needs no one, and no one needs her.

Until one night, when she is camped by the side of the road in her trusty Volkswagon Westie van, a fierce thunder and lightning storm erupts. In the middle of the downpour, she hears a distinct voice telling her to let me in. In jumps a little black and white dog, and to Ruby's astonishment, she can hear the dog's thoughts. Has she been struck by lightning? Did the storm do this? Is she losing her mind?

It turns out, Ruby can hear many dogs' thoughts. She decides to set up semi-permanent residency in the town of Harmony Farms, until she can sort out what is going on, and who the little dog, Hitch, belongs to. But some people in Harmony Farms don't want her there. And it seems that events keep preventing Ruby from leaving. What secrets is this town keeping? Why was she meant to find this dog? And what has Ruby really been running from, all these years?

WHY CASS CAN'T WAIT: I know Mom has really enjoyed this author in the past so this is an auto-buy for her.  Also, if Mom is struck by lightning she'll be able to hear my thoughts?  Now why is she so afraid of storms?  Maybe it isn't worth the risk but still...

WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK?

  4. I bet she'd love to be able to hear your thoughts Cass but maybe without a lightning strike! That could be just a tad painful!

    1. Yes I would... but you're right, I could live without the lightning strike.

  5. These both sound good, Barb. What a neat gift to be able to hold people's hands and then sing a song related to what she reads off them. Lorne from the old TV show Angel came to mind (my husband and I have been re-watching it). I like the mystery aspect of Grave Reservations too, of course. :-) I hope you enjoy these when you read them! Have a great day!
