Weekly Reads (07-28-17) - Maybe I Should Build an Ark

So honestly, I don't have a lot to report here from The Farm.  The weather has been crazy and last Saturday evening, we had enough rain in that we had over a foot of water flowing down our street.  I live in the city so this is not a usual occurrence (and you all really thought I lived on a farm???).
This is the street that runs down the side of our house.  And no, I don't know the idiot who owns the black SUV and is trying to drive their way out.  Luckily there was minimal wind/lightening damage so my little scared Booker T didn't panic too much.  However, they are calling for more of this today so who knows.  Seriously, anyone have any ark blueprints for sale?

My reading picked up some which is a good thing because after "Final Girls" I really didn't want to pick up anything. There also aren't that many good movies being released so movie time has sucked too.  However, we have been enjoying "The Strain" and "Game of Thrones" and I marathoned the entire season of "This Is Us."  I also caught the first episode of "Midnight, Texas" on NBC and although slightly cheesy, I found it extremely entertaining so it has promise.  The  books are WAAAYYY better though.

Grandpa was hospitalized Sunday evening but has since been released.  He may have had a small heart attack or else maybe he overdid it when he mowed his entire yard by himself Sunday.  Either way, he is doing fine now.  Also, those of you who remember the saga of the cousin and his wife living with Grandpa?  Let's just say Karma caught up with them and is riding in a police car.

So here's what I hope to read this weekend and following week.  I'm in  the middle of "The Thirteenth Gate" and so far, it's pretty good.  However, it brings in some characters from another series so I feel like I started at a disadvantage.  I need to get through "Descender Vol. 3" before it's due back at the library and then I feel horror calling my name so I want to get through "Optical Delusion" because chances are good that I will love it.

So I hope everyone else's week is going well.  Are you reading anything good this weekend???

  2. That is crazy flooding. My street is on high ground up on a hilled area so we don't get that problem unless the drains get blocked. Flooding is one of my fears though.

Ah karma is a great thing sometimes isn't it!

    1. I'm pretty sure it was because the drains need redone, and they couldn't keep up with the amount of water falling from the sky. Yes, karma can be truly beautiful at times.

  3. Whoa, that is definitely a flood! I long for rain here, but maybe not that much. Have a great weekend!

  4. Looks like it did here. It's rained so much this summer. I need to check on Optical Delusion. I know I pre-ordered it! I'm over half way through Final Girls and not sure what to make of it. I sense a huge surprise looming. Might even have an idea what it is.

  5. I hope you don't have any more flooding. That looks crazy! Poor Grandpa....I am glad he was released from the hospital but it sounds like he had a real scare. I enjoyed Midnight Texas this week. I haven't read the books but the show was weird enough to be completely entertaining. Have a great week!

    1. It was crazy. Midnight Texas was a tad cheesy, but I'm really liking it. I don't think Mr. Barb liked it too well so it's probably one I will record each week and watch on my own.

  6. Yikes, people are so foolish. Maybe he wanted to see if that SUV could float. I'm so glad your Grandpa is ok and am thrilled karma finally caught up with someone! Have a great weekend.

    1. If they floated away, they deserved it. Not that I would wish anyone harm (well, maybe the cousins) but come on now, use some brains!

  7. Oh my, look at that flooding - I hope the rain holds off for you and also that your grandpa is okay.
    Happy reading next week.

  8. That is some crazy flooding and hopefully the rain coming won't do that! We had a nice rain yesterday but nothing real bad. I watched the first episode of Midnight Texas and I liked (wasn't a fan of the book as I thought it was boring...*hides*...I still want to try the second one..but I think I might like this show more than the books for once.)

    Hope you enjoy your reads!

  9. Can you send some of that rain over here to southern California? I can't imagine dealing with that kind of flooding though. Sending positive thoughts your grandpa's way. Enjoy the weekend!

  10. Glad to hear grandpa is okay and that you guys weathered the storm. And I hate it when a bad book kills all motivation to read! Happy to hear it's picking up again though, looking forward to your reviews!

    1. Thanks. Unfortunately he ended up back in the hospital yesterday but is doing ok at the moment. Maybe I'll know more soon. Didn't help the reading much over the weekend.

  11. Wow, that is a lot of water! I must admit I do picture you on a farm. LOL. I'm glad your grandpa is doing better. Karma... you really gotta love Karma sometimes.

    1. I often wish we did live on a farm. At least one on the outskirts of town. Someday maybe I'll do a post explaining how I came to be "Booker T's Farm."

  12. Not a lot to report?! That was a pretty eventful post! lol And sure did think you lived on a farm. Heh We could really use some rain but minus the flooding, please! lol Glad your granddad is doing okay and karma paid a visit to some others ;)

  13. Wow I hope that the flooding has died down now! If not, try googling arc blueprints. I bet there are some lol!

I hope Grandpa is doing okay... hopefully he just over did it and it wasn't an actual heart attack. I'm surprised they can't tell you definitively if it was or not.

Have a great week and try not to float away... you could try sending some of the rain this way. We could use it in Dallas!

    1. I'm not sure if THEY couldn't determine or if he is just glossing it over - which is a total Grandpa thing to do. The water went down after about 2 hours and luckily we didn't get swamped much this weekend - although other parts of our state did.

  14. sorry I'm so behind my comments because of Camp Nano and a project at work, So sorry about the flood and to hear about your grandpa. I know I shouldn't be happy about anyone riding in a police car but I kinda am. You are watching "This is us!!" which one S1 part I or part II? I loved the first part but for some reason lost motivation and never watch part II is it as good???

    1. I watched both and enjoyed both parts pretty equally. Kevin seems to improve some in the second half which made him more tolerable and Kate finally stopped being at his beck and call which was nice as well. My fave storyline was Randall and his bio dad and that really played out in Part 2.

  15. Oh no!! I hope the water cleared up quickly! We went out to Illinois a couple of months ago after they had major rain. We had never seen flooding like that before!

    1. It went down in about 2 hours. Our town has such poor drainage so it was just flash flooding but it even got into some local stores and car dealerships.
