Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: For fans of CJ Box and Michael Koryta, a new thriller set in remote Washington State, where a widowed ex-Marine and a misanthropic ex-convict grudgingly team up to save the only thing they have in common--the rescue dog who changed both their lives.
Widowed while deployed overseas, former US Marine Jess Winslow reenters civilian life with little more than a falling-down house, a medical discharge for PTSD, and a dog--specifically Lucy, a black and white pitbull mix trained to help Jess cope with the crippling memories of her time in Afghanistan. But Jess also inherits a heap of trouble, of her late husband Ty's making. A corrupt deputy sheriff comes looking for a mysterious package -- and leaves with Lucy, threatening to have the dog destroyed unless Jess delivers the goods allegedly stolen by her husband before his untimely death.
The next person to appear on her doorstep is a newly released ex-convict. Surprisingly, he's there to help. The only good thing to come of Mason Burke's fifteen years in prison was the dog he trained there for a service-animal program--Lucy. She helped keep him sane; now he'll stop at nothing to keep her safe.
Forced into an uneasy alliance in order to save Lucy, Jess and Mason must learn to trust each other. But finding Ty's package is only the start of their battle. To avoid becoming collateral damage in someone else's private war, they'll have to fight back--and conquer their own doubts and fears.
DECEPTION COVE is a gripping story of survival and redemption set in the Pacific Northwest's most beautiful and most dangerous coastal terrain.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I love the idea of two unlikely characters teaming up to find a service dog. But I will add - the dog better not get hurt! Also, the comparion to Koryta interests me because I like the books I've read by him and in fact, need to read more.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

ReplyDeleteThis does sound good, Barb, and I agree...Lucy better not get hurt. I haven't read any books by Koryta so I think I'll check him out, too! Good pick.
ReplyDeleteSome of his stuff is great. He does some crime/thrillers and then some that border on horror.
DeleteI'm with you. Lucy better not get hurt! This sounds good and I like the setting too.
ReplyDeleteThat's what caught my attention initially, and then I saw "dog."
DeleteThis sounds amazing, Barb! I'm with you, that dog better be ok, but I get the sense that she will. Great choice, I've seen a more that usual amount of books about rescue/service dogs lately, so awesome😁
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. I think it's cool.
DeleteThis book sounds worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteJust that cover alone screams atmnsphere! Plus it sounds really good, and I think I like the service dog character already! That jerk sheriff better not hurt him, I agree! :)
ReplyDeleteNo doubt!
DeleteYour pick sounds good. I agree, the dog better not get hurt or it will really ruin it. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura.
DeleteThis sounds so good! And I'm totally with you. That dog better not get hurt! Thanks for sharing! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm always on the hunt!
DeleteI've read one other book by this other and liked it, but this one sounds even better. Maybe because it has a dog in it. ;D
ReplyDeleteOh I never even thought to look up other books. Off to do that now!
DeleteYou had me at them joining together to save a rescue dog. This sounds really good! I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteThey do seem like an unlikely pairing though.
DeleteThis one seems interesting, I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle. Too bad it doesn't have a rescue cat too!
DeleteThis sounds fantastic. Makes me realize it's been too long since I've read a good mystery too.
ReplyDeleteHave you read No Exit? If not, I highly recommend it.
DeleteThis sounds great, and something tells me there will be a happy ending, so crossing my fingers the dog will be fine!

ReplyDeleteI'm betting I will.
DeleteThis sounds amazing and I love the setting.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely. The setting is what initially caught my attention.
DeleteThis sounds a bit different but like you said, the dog better not get hurt!
ReplyDeleteIf it does, the author will never hear the end of it :)
DeleteYeah, I'm not a fan of books when the animal gets hurt. Fingers crossed it's a good one!
ReplyDeleteMe either. If I read it, I'll give people a head's up on the dog situation.
DeleteFingers crossed for no dog casualty!
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
No Doubt.
DeleteThis does sound good and I am with you the dog better not get hurt!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping not as well.
DeleteGreat CWW pick Barb I am the same way about animals getting hurt in books I really don't like reading about any animals getting hurt in books either. Thank you so much for stopping by my CWW post last week Barb.
