Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
So the public has spoken - Cass is now a full-time contributor to Can't Wait Wednesday. That means each week you'll see two books here. Of course Cass is already lobbying for an increase in salary (at least he works for treats - and bandanas).
FROM GOODREADS: When she was a child, Cassidy Pratt accidentally started a fire that killed her neighbor. At least, that’s what she’s been told. She can’t remember anything from that day, and her town’s bullies, particularly the cruel and beautiful Melody Davenport, have never let her live it down.
But then Melody goes missing, and Cassidy thinks she may have information. She knows she should go to the cops, but she recently joked about how much she’d like to get rid of Melody. She even planned out the perfect way to do it. And then she gets a chilling text from an unknown number: I’m so glad we’re in this together.
Now it’s up to Cassidy to figure out what really happened before the truth behind Melody’s disappearance sets the whole town ablaze.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I've really been enjoying thrillers lately and this one sounds like it has a lot of potential. I want to know if Cassidy really started that fire as well as who is sending her mysterious and incriminating texts. Plus doll heads on the cover always send a creepy vibe!
CASSIUS'S PICK
FROM GOODREADS: An irresistibly blackhearted comedy about doctors, dating, dogs, and depression
Janet works at a ramshackle dog shelter in the woods. She has a passive-aggressive boyfriend, a meddlesome family, and a clutch of eccentric coworkers. Most of all, she has her "sad"--a comfortable cloak of gloomy realism that brings her comfort when everyone around her has surrendered to the permanent promise of pharmaceutical bliss.
Janet wants no part of this, and her family has nearly given up on her. That is, until the fateful summer when word spreads of a new pill that offers even confirmed cynics a short-term taste of happiness . . . just long enough to make it through the holidays without sinking into depression. When her family stages an intervention, her boyfriend leaves her, and the prospect of making it through Christmas alone seems like too much, Janet decides to give in to the pressure. What follows is life-changing for all concerned--in ways no one quite expected.
Sharp-tongued, relentlessly witty, yet surprisingly warm, Sad Janet is the depression comedy you never knew you needed.
WHY CASSIUS CAN'T WAIT: First of all, look at that poor puppy - forced to wear a pink sweater. She looks pretty depressed and needs some cheering up. She should visit me - there's no time for depression with Apollo around. As for the book, I don't like taking pills so I can understand why Janet doesn't want to either. Also, I saw a review that said she is rather snarky and loves dogs more than people. I think Mom will really enjoy this one!
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
Ooh, Little Creeping Things sounds awesome, but ugh, dolls on the cover are for me like cover snake is for you - I just can't do them, lol!

I don't like dolls either but they are nowhere as bad as snakes for me. I think they're really creepy. I do hope the book is good.
DeleteThat is a really sad looking dog! That dog needs to visit you and Apollo and learn about fun!
ReplyDeletePoor puppy could visit us any time!
DeleteOoh, that doll head - so creepy!!
ReplyDeleteI think dolls creep a lot of people out.
DeleteI've got to look into Sad Janet, it sounds like my kind of book. And I hope that dog is in the story!
ReplyDeleteIt says it features dogs because she likes them better than people - smart woman. Yep, I hope the cover is the accurate dog though. That REALLY irks me when they don't match.
DeleteThe dog on the cover looks so sad. If Sad Janet is half that sad I hope this is a comedy as it says it is! And I don't like creepy dolls so I will have on Little Creeping Things. (Even the title is creepy!)
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm interested to see how sad Janet really is and yes, that is a creepy title!
Deletegreat cover and title for the creeping things book and i agree with cassius...who can resist that face. doesn't look too happy about wearing the pink sweater. :-)
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Yea, I'm sure if it's a female pink is okay, but honestly, that's a lot of pink on the cover!
DeleteBoth of these sound good but I think the first one is one I would most likely read. :)
ReplyDeleteYea it sounds like something you would read!
DeleteThe puppy on the cover would definitely pull me in <3 I hope you enjoy both of these!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading :)

DeleteAwesome choices! I hope that you enjoy them. :)
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteEek Little Creeping Things looks fun haha!
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteLittle Creeping Things. What a fantastic title and creepy cover. Sad Janet makes me just want to hug her:)
ReplyDeleteI know. That puppy needs hugs, snacks and a warm bed to snuggle in.
DeleteOh my, what did happen to Melody? I like that I can’t quite stop wondering about cassidy — it feels like something is missing about her in thr blurb. I am with Janet — dogs are much better than people!
ReplyDeleteYea, the blurb definitely leaves a lot of questions. And yep, dogs ARE better than people.
DeleteI like the sound of both of these. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThese both look good. I hope you enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteThat thriller sounds really good and I agree about the cover being super creepy. I don't know what it is about dolls like that but they always creep me out, lol.
ReplyDeleteOMG - a doll on the cover, could it be any scarier - I wants it.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I want to read ANYTHING with the word "creeping" on the title LOL I hope it is good!
