We Interrupt This Program for a Football Update!

Tonight my beloved college Alma Mater will be playing in the Gasparilla Bowl against South Florida.  I hope all players have a safe game but I won't lie, I hope my Herd kicks butt!

So at 8:00pm tonight, you know I'll be glued in front of the television and reading will be taking a backseat.

I don't know if any of you saw the "We Are Marshall" movie but that's my school.  They lost their entire football team in a plane accident November 14, 1970.  The whole community and state rallied to help the program recover and I think that just shows what a great school I graduated from.  Here is the memorial on campus.  Each pinnacle on top represents a life that was lost in the crash.

So there you go, a mini WV history lesson.

Now GO HERD!

    1. Yes, it was a very sad situation but I think they movie was so well done. Huntington is so proud of its college and it was a great place to get an education.

  2. How sad about the crash...that's so horrible. Good luck to your guys! My football team were promoted last season in a blaze of glory and our manager walked out for a big money job weeks before the new season. The new manager came in, sold a few of the best players, started fighting with the team and causing chaos and was fired weeks into the new season. We have the right guy in charge now but we are struggling along at the bottom of the league until that transfer window opens and we can change things!

    1. How awful about your team. However, it sounds like there is now hope and it will just take time for things to fall into place. The coach of Marshall a few years before Doc Holliday took over almost ran us into the dirt. Good leadership and coaching really can make all the difference.

  3. Yes, I saw the Marshall movie and cried. Good luck to your team.
Yikes, sorry to hear the trouble ChucklesTheScot's team is having!
I went to Oklahoma. I fear the Orange Bowl will be very, very tough for them!

    1. Thanks so much. Priscilla I am sooooo cheering for your team. In fact, I remember watching Oklahoma play WVU and wanting you guys to win (WVU seems to think they are the only university in the state and totally rip on Marshall all the time so I always say my 2 favorite teams are Marshall and anyone playing WVU). I'm ready for Alabama's reign to end!
