Friday Face Off (2) - Summer

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, hosted by Books by Proxy  This week is summer themed and I'm probably pushing the limits of interpretation but here it goes!

Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year – Pagan rituals/standing stones/blazing suns – a cover with your own interpretation

1. English - Random House (2005)
2.  English - Ballantine Books (2013)
3.  English - Doubleday Books (1974)
4.  Portuguese - Darkside Books (2015)
5.  Spanish - Circulo de Lectores (1974)
6. Arabic (1973)

When I think of summer, I tend to think of beaches and sharks.  This remains one of my favorite movies and even though I've not read the book, I do own a copy.  I think my favorite is #2 which is the one I bought a few years back.  I'm not sure about #3.  It really doesn't look like a shark to me and #4 is just terrifying.

What's your favorite and what do you think of when it comes to summer?

  1. Haha, I remember choosing this book for a past FF (I think the theme was "underwater") and I had so much fun with it, looking back at the classic covers. Gotta love the iconic Random House and Ballantine editions!

    1. I have never read the book but do own it. I bought it for some challenge last year and never got to it. I absolutely adore the movie so I'm actually afraid reading it might ruin the movie for me. Or maybe just make me really dislike the book :)

    1. That cover is pretty terrifying. I guess I've seen the movie so much to not like the ones that remind me of it.

  4. The first two are my favorites. I still have my original copy. Kind of battered after several rereads. LOL I always think of sharks when looking for summer reads. Got some good ones to read!

    1. Man, Chuckles can really find the shark books. She's my go-to for shark and dinosaur recommendations.

    1. I used to want to be a marine biologist so I'm surprised I didn't read it as a teen too.

  6. I'm not sure I have a favorite. I kind of like all of these. The music from the movie is playing in my head right now, haha. Happy Friday!

  7. Yeah, summer is for sharks!!! I didn't like the book at all but Jaws is one of my all time favourite films and I watch it a lot! The copy I used to have is closest to the first one but with red, white and blue colouring.

    1. It's a great movie. I also liked the movie Orca. I remember wearing my Dad out watching those one summer as a kid.

  8. Haha - what a fantastic choice for this theme - the beach is perfect (although I can do without the sharks). I loved this book although it would probably be dated now and the film too even though it made me genuinely terrified of going in the sea. That music.

    1. Yes I didn't mind the ocean as a kid but I know a lot more now than I did then. Plus here is the US there have been quite a few shark attacks in the recent years. I would probably be afraid now.
