What's Happening...(06-08-19)

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So you may have noticed there was no "What's Happening" post last week.  That's because too much was happening to post one :)  I had to go out of town on a day trip Friday for a meeting which was fine but on the way back I drove into the worst storm ever (well, maybe not ever).  There were torrential downpours as well as hail while I was on the interstate and I had to pull over one and sit for 20 minutes.  I NEVER pull over.  Then when I could drive, it was about 30mph for almost 20 miles.  I felt so lucky and blessed to make it home alive but it was emotionally exhausting.  To top it off, I got a call from Gpa while that was going on that he was headed to the ER and thought he was dying.  He is home now but it was a rough couple days topped off by Stupid Uncle (SU) antics.  Then this week lots of extended family was still calling wanting updates and complaining about SU.  Needless to say I'm ready for a weekend!

We did mange to watch a few things.  "Boar" is an Australian film Mr. Barb has been wanting to see for ages but despite being made in 2017 we could never find it to stream or purchase.  It finally released on Shudder as an exclusive Thursday so we got to watch it.  It wasn't awesome or anything but that giant homicidal boar was pretty impressive.  We also watched "When They See Us" on Netflix and it was kind of a tough watch but well made.  And I can't forget, we also watched "Captain Marvel" last weekend and it was tons of fun!

I feel like I'm behind on my reading already but here's what's on the stack for this weekend.

I've also received a few books for review.  "A Lush and Seething Hell" and "The Girl on the Porch" are both horror books that caught my eye.  "Saving Exodus" is by the same author who wrote "Prey of Gods" which I ADORED and well, you all know how I feel about Hunter Shea so is it any real surprise I have his new one as well - "Slash."

BTW, a small Cass update.  Cass is doing fine.  He's eating and has been spending lots of time walking and playing.  I think the hardest time for him is the mornings because he knows he's going to be alone after Mom and Dad leave for work. Luckily we've both been able to stop by during our lunches to check on him.

So I hope you all are having a good weekend.  Are you reading or watching anything good?  It sure is nice to be back!

  1. I got A Lush and Seething Hell as well. My daughter's friend Ethan Herisse is actually one of the actors in When They See Us! He is a college freshman and he's going to the same school as my son, but he took last fall semester off to film the show.

    1. OMG that's so cool. I looked him up - that's Yusef. I loved him. It was such a hard show to watch but it was so well done.

    1. Captain Marvel was pretty good. Does she play much of a role in Endgame? I have to admit the timeline of all the Marvel movies really messes with my head.

  3. Glad Cass is doing well! And hope you're having a nice and relaxing weekend! Those are the best. I hate driving in storms like that!

    1. It was pretty calm except Mr. Barb bought a grill so I had to go pick it up in my truck and I hate hauling stuff.

  4. I will definitely be looking for your review of A Discovery of Witches. I have been toying with reading those books for years. I am currently recording the tv series but haven't watched any of them.

    1. I'm not into the whole "book boyfriend" thing - unless they're canines :) However, there is something very intriguing about Matthew :)

  5. Oh man, so tempted by that Hunter Shea book. I saw that one pop up on NetGalley last week and it was all I could do to stop myself from slamming on that request button.

    1. You really need to try one of his. Maybe you won't like it but if you do, there's a whole catalog for you to chose from if you do :)

  6. Wow! Stress alamode! Glad to hear grandpa is okay. I am terrified of highways anyway and I would have been primordial soup on the floor if I had to experience that alone. (((((hugs)))))

I have A Discovery of Witches. I picked it up last year when the ebook was $1.99 and then everyone proceeded to tell me they didn't like it. 😂 I am curious to see what you will think. I'm not planning on reading it until October. 🎃

    Big HUGS for Cass. 💛

Have a wonderful, and less stressful, new week. 🌞

    1. Well, my coworker was with me but actually, she wasn't much help. She was on the phone with her boyfriend the whole time...until I told her to hang up and help me watch for hazards. Cass says thanks for the hugs!

  7. My dad bought Boar but I don't think he's watched it yet. I'm glad that Cass is doing better too. Sorry about the stupid relative and your grandpa being ill again. It sounds like a really trying week.

    1. It's entertaining but nothing spectacular. From the trailers I saw, I thought it would be better.

  9. When I was working, I always went home at lunch to love on my furry babies! I hated the idea of them being alone all day. I'm happy Cass is going better!

  10. Not heard of Boar - will have to go and have a look.
Glad to hear Cass is doing better - it's really difficult for the remaining dog isn't it. I think it took Dude a good month, maybe two, to get over Jack passing, and that was after a lot of pampering to distract him.

    1. Yes Cass is getting a lot of pampering and making lots of new friends. We try to let him see people/pets when out walking and interact with them because it makes him so happy.
