Top Ten Tuesday - Reasons Why I Love Reading

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish they  handed over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

This week is kind of a "This Is Why I Love Freebie."  I tossed about a few ideas but finally decided to just share with you reasons I love reading. I mean, besides the pups, that's why we're here right?

1.  I grew up an only child living in the country.  I was also your typical latch-key kid.  Reading was a great way to pass the time.  Might I also add that we didn't even have cable until I was a mid-teen.

2.  I love losing myself in fantastical worlds which only exist in the minds of authors and readers.

3.  I absolutely love the feeling of a book in my hand (you totally get this right)?

4.  I still feel that books are fairly inexpensive on the whole.  Especially when you can factor in sales, used books, and kindle freebies.  A good video game is almost $75.00 now.  Do you know how many books I can buy with $75.00?

5.  I love that I've made some wonderful friends though reading.  I could name a whole bunch of you and you are all so great.  I even recently had a blogger all the way across the globe reach out to me to see if I was handling the pandemic okay and offering to listen if needed.  (Thank you Verushka).  Book people are great right?

6. I love getting lost in libraries.

7.  I love the euphoria of visiting a bookstore (oh how I want to visit a bookstore soon).

8.  I love that through reading I have been able to interact with some authors, have some of them visit my blog, and have even had some of them send me their books for review.  Who would have ever thought huh?

So there you have it.  I want to issue a heartfelt thanks to all the blogging and booktube community.  We are going through something a lot of never thought we'd see in our lifetime and I think the escape, friendship and support we continually provide each other is a tremendous blessing.

  1. I really get it about the feel of a book in your hand plus the whisper of turning pages, a shiny new cover and that new book smell! I've always loved losing myself in other worlds and forgetting real life for a while. I agree with you also about the bookish friends we meet online who are proving a great support in this trying time!

  2. All of this is spot on. As a book blogger I love reading debuts and trying new things, but every once in a while I also like turning to my favorite authors because I know I am guaranteed a good time.

  4. This is a great list and mirrors so man of my own thoughts. I do love the feel of a book in my hand although I do read mostly on kindle these days. I still love visiting a bookstore and stacking books in my arms - or a library for that matter. And I love the friends I've made and the recommendations they joyfully heap on me - a well stacked tbr can' t be faulted.

  5. ooh, I love your take on the prompt this week! I soooo relate to number one! Very much the same for me. While I do love reading on my Kindle, I totally get the thrill of having a book in your hand, too. That's why I try to do both. xD New video game releases here for our system are about $60, and ugh, that's always my thought, too. Do you know how many books I could get?! Hubby's an avid gamer, so it makes me twitch a little when he wants to buy new video games but I have "too many" books. Pffft.

You know, it's so funny, I just had the thought the other day that as soon as everything opens, I need to go to Half-Priced Books LOL. It was my first thought when we were talking about the state possibly reopening. xD

    1. I know. I can't wait to go to a bookstore or a library. My husband likes to game, heck so do I, but he's learned to try to catch them on sale. Since we've went digital with his PS4 they do seem to be cheaper. Plus our library rents games so he can try them and make sure he likes them first.

  8. I love losing myself in other worlds as well. So true! And visiting a bookstore is one of my favorite things to do. :)

I also love the bookish community and how so many of us have the shared interest of reading and can talk about it- and interact with authors too. You're right- who would have thunk? :)

    Hope you are well today!

  11. These are all great points. I especially love #4. My fiance is a big video game person, and that last sentence describes me in response to him always (but at least that means I get more space on the bookshelves).

Oh, and #6 of course. Nothing beats it. Not even a bookstore (although oftentimes, provided it doesn't have a coffee shop...the bookstore is quieter).

  13. I spent a lot of time reading as a kid. We sat in the car a lot and I learned to use the time to accomplish things. I don't know how many books I read in the near dark in the back of a van. I agree with everything on your list and agree that the blogging community is great!

    1. As a kid I would always get carsick when I read which used to always make me mad because think how many books I could have read riding a bus to school and home each day.

  14. I was an only child until I was sixteen and lived in the country from nine years and older, so I seriously relate to your number one on the list! 📚✨

I love forming friendships with other bloggers and authors too. Books are wonderful bonding catalysts. 💜
