So this week is a Halloween freebie. I've done so many horror related posts that I struggled to mix it up a bit. I've decided that this week I'm going to share with you Stephen King books I've yet to read. I've read over 56 of his titles, but for some reason, there are a few I just never get to. And as a bonus, at the end you'll get my ONLY Stephen King DNF - the horror!
CARRIE (1974) - I've seen each movie version several times but have never picked up the book.
THE STAND (1978) - I will be remedying this one soon because Stormi and I are starting a buddy read in November.
THE DEAD ZONE (1979) - I'm starting to see a pattern here.
THE DARK TOWER SERIES (1982-2012) - I own a pretty box set. Maybe someday.
THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON (1999) - Wow, I took a pretty big jump in the timeline!
THE BILL HODGES TRILOGY (2014-2016) I remember running out in a massive thunderstorm to buy this book. You would think that would have motivated me. Again, I own them all.
SLEEPING BEAUTIES (2017) - Another one that sits on my shelves.
THE ELEVATION (2018) - I've not heard many good things at all so this skinny little book scares me!
THE INSTITUTE (2019) - Quite new yet so I'm not THAT far behind on it.
So there you have it! Can you believe that's it. I've read all of his other novels? And are you ready for the only King book I've DNF'ed? Maybe one day I'll give it another try.......
THE TOMMYKNOCKERS (1987) - I hated the movie too!
There are a lot of older King books I haven't read - I really should, but I have a hard time with his earlier work, they tend to be so long and dense. Of course, I also have my eye on The Institute, I'm waiting for more reviews to decide if I should pick it up!

Yea, when I was looking at his list I could definitely tell when I started reading. It was his first few I hadn't gotten to and then a few of his later ones. I own The Institute but need to find time for it.
Delete*gasps* what do you mean you didn't like one of SK's books?! ;) In the grand scheme of things, this is a very short list of books you haven't read of his!
ReplyDeleteI know, shocking right?
DeleteWow, it makes you realize how prolific of a writer he is when you've read 56 of this books and there's still more to read!
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure. Of course you can't turn on the TV now without seeing a movie or show coming out too. He's everywhere!
DeleteIf you wanted reader feedback on these books, I loved Carrie. It was such a great story.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, I disked The Tommyknockers as well.
My TTT.
That is one I need to make time for. I'm including it in a project for 2020 so here's hoping.
DeleteHa ha, I didn't like The Tommyknockers either! I'm dying to read Mr. Mercedes, maybe next year. The Dark Tower series is amazing, but a lot of people don't like it for some reason.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a popular opinion. I'm not worried about The Dark Tower but it's a big endeavor to start on.
DeleteCarrie and The Stand were great. I wasn't keen on the others especially The Tommyknockers! I haven't read any from 2016 onwards.
ReplyDeleteI think some of his more recent work is good but do know around the time you mentioned he took a dip.
DeleteWow, to have written 56 books, let alone have written so many books that a person has read 56 books yet still has unread books!
ReplyDeleteThe Stand is really good.
Glad to hear you like it!
DeleteI've only read The Gunslinger on the list. It is well-written but a bit too dark for me. Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteYou're quite welcome and thanks for stopping by The Farm.
DeleteI have only every read one King book. I think it was called Tommyknockers? Are you going to go see Doctor Sleep?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll see it in the theater - we rarely go anymore. But I'll definitely be streaming it when I can. It looks really good.
Deleteyou still have some good books of his left to read. i am behind on the newer stuff
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I know. I'm sure I'll find a favorite or two in his older ones when I get to them.
DeleteNot a Stephen King fan so my list would be much longer. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
DeleteI HATED The Tommyknockers too!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Stand though! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Yea I have some good company with Tommyknockers!
DeleteI've read The Stand...and really liked it. I've also read The Tommyknockers...and was disappointed. I don't know what I was hoping for, but not what that book delivered. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on alien books and doesn't Tommyknockers have aliens?
DeleteI don't read horror so I haven't read much of him. I did read Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, and enjoyed them. I have yet to read the third one.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
Have you seen the series. Season 1 was really good but then I got behind.
DeleteI've never read a King book- can you believe that?? I've seen some of the movies though :)
ReplyDeleteGasp! You need to at least pick up one!
DeleteI haven't read most of these! :) I own six of them!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you own them :) I plan on including at least 1 or 2 into our 2020 project.
DeleteI have rather recently decided I like King's writing so I have a ton to read! I have read The Institute and it is awesome, Barb!
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you loved it. I enjoyed your review and it have me hope!
DeleteI think I’ve read 30-something King books. I don’t remember the exact number, but I enjoyed most of them. The Tommyknockers was the first King book I read. I liked it, but I was 11 when I read it, so I probably wouldn’t like it anymore.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
30+ is really great as well.
DeleteI've read most of his books, except for a few of his newer ones. I will be catching up!
ReplyDeleteI hope to catch up one day!
DeleteI haven't read most of these, in fact I've read only a few King books which does surprise me - I've read Carrie though.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I think a lot of people have read Carrie, but nope, not me. Not yet anyway.
DeleteToday I learned that Stephen King has written over 56 novels. Wow! I knew he was prolific, but in my head I had visualized it as the dozen or so Big Name novels I knew and maybe another 10 lesser knowns.
ReplyDeleteI think his actual total is close to 70 or so. Such a talented individual.
DeleteThe Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is my FAVORITE! :)
ReplyDeleteWell the, I need to push it up on the list then.
DeleteI have only read It, and Salem's Lot. I think I am going to read Dr. Sleep without reading The Shining. 😇
