So I ended up not doing a post last weekend. I didn't get one up Friday, had every intention of getting one up Saturday and then was under the weather all day Sunday. So bear with me if this one is a little long.
Pretty much all is well at The Farm. We're in full Halloween mode which means we are trying to watch tons of scary stuff, and then there's football, and books and well, you get the idea. We managed to watch "Annabelle Comes Home" this week. I really enjoy the movies in The Conjuring world and this one was no exception. There was a teen in it that seriously needed some brains, but it made for some great scares and some good entertainment. We're still enjoying "AHS:1984" but was kind of disappointed in the second episode of "Creepshow."
My Grandfather made a trip this week to see his brother who lives 4 hours away. One of his nephews took him which was really nice. I'm glad to see others doing things with him even if Stupid Uncle is still an unreliable as ever. Mom is still grieving her pup which is also to be expected. And speaking of pups, Cass got a new blanket and is enjoying cozy nights sleeping now. I have two pictures to share of him this week since I didn't post last week. The first is his weekly bandana instagram shot where he is sporting his Joker support and the second one is his best, most miserable looking impression of Loki.
So I've been running to the library for holds and getting books for review and since I didn't share any last week, I think I'll just focus on review books. Oh, and I did place an Amazon order. I couldn't find "Full Throttle" in my local bookstore so I had to order it. And places wonder why Amazon is taking over. And then I was really curious about the Agatha Christie book. And then The Beautiful was a gift from Mr. Mike.
So I will be reading this weekend and here's what's up next on the stack. "The Time Police" is for a blog tour, the author very kindly sent me "Scavenger Hunt," and yep, that's a women's fiction book thrown right in the middle of Halloween season???? I also need to be working on "Slash" and "Magic Shifts" before the end of the month as those two are buddy reads with Stormi. And in case you don't know, Stormi has been creating some awesome videos over on Booktube/Youtube so make sure to check her out HERE.
And now for the review books I received from the publishers and Netgalley. "Separation Anxiety" is not a book you'd typically see here BUT there is a dog. I'm preparing for some Christmas reads with "A Very Scalzi Christmas" and "Christmas Past." I'm definitely getting some creepy vibes from "The Poor and the Haunted," "Conjure Women," and "Blood Countess" which involved Lady Dracula. "No Man's Land" is a continuation of a thriller series and I've seen lots of buzz about "Darling Rose Gold" and "The Sun Down Motel."
So there you have it. If you've made it through all of this, thanks. Are you reading any good books or watching any movies or TV I have to see?
Cass doesn't look impressed about wearing the horns! I hope he got a compensation treat! Amazon is pretty much my only book resource at the moment as I can't get Indie releases or most of the series and authors I follow anywhere else. The only commercial bookshop outside of hoofing into Glasgow is Waterstones but I can never find the politics books I want there without ordering them and waiting weeks for it to come in. I stick with Amazon now, despite its shortcomings!
ReplyDeleteYea, Amazon has done a good job making it hard to shop elsewhere. And the local shops sure aren't helping. Yes, Cass is very well compensated. In fact, Saturday evening I made a Walmart run especially for him because he was out of his favorite snack. SPOILED!
DeleteSo many great looking books! I just got two books in from the library. One is Hollow Kingdom which I know . you loved so I can't wait to read it. But I am trying to get through a Dog's Promise so I can start A Discovery of Witches. But the library books are due in 3 weeks and I want to read the Witches trilogy all together so who knows when I will get to them . To solve my own problem, I need to stop putting books on hold at the library for awhile lol
ReplyDeleteYay! Hope you are loving Hollow Kingdom. I have the same library problem and haven't figured out how to calm my clicking reserve fingers yet!
DeleteCass is looking so cute! I see some books I've been eyeing. Darling Rose Gold has me intrigued, and so does The Sun Down Motel. Lots to read, good luck with that pile!😁🎃🦇
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Tammy. I still need to read St. James' first novel but I have heard good things about it.
DeleteOoh love the Cass pics haha. And I have the same problem sometimes- I try to support the local bookstore and they never have the book I want. Argh.
ReplyDeleteI love those style of Christie covers. I saw her Halloween mystery one too and it also has a really cool cover. :) And A Very Scalzi Christmas looks good.
I need to look up the Halloween one. Thanks for mentioning it!
DeleteI need to fit in those buddy reads some time too! :) You got some cool books!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You'll find time :)
DeleteA teen in a movie who seriously needed brains? So what else is new, lol! And I'm trying to cram my fill of horror for this month too - so far doing well on my horror reads, but I'm not watching near as many horror movies as I'd like!

I am hoping to squeeze a few more movies in. I love Fall as there's always new shows and football to watch but it makes it hard to take it all in.
DeleteThe cover for Separation Anxiety is cute! I am currently reading Stolen Things, which took a left turn that has me on the edge of my seat!
ReplyDeleteYea, all I saw was the dog and I was in!
DeleteSorry you were not feeling well last weekend. I hope that your grandpa had a nice visit and that others are helping out. You added a nice pile of books during the past two weeks. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteVisits with Gpa are always nice but they do eat up a chunk of my Saturday as it's about a 30 minute drive each way - not that that is long or anything.
DeleteMy dog wouldn't let me put something on his head. I tried to get a picture of him with ga=lasses and they were sent flying. LOL I hope you are feeling better now:)
ReplyDeleteCass was clearly not happy.
Deleteoh I'm glad you got The Beautiful as a gift! I'm dying now to see what you think of it! I'd been so curious about it!
ReplyDeleteWe are also into football and scary stuff at home :) I love pup's pic! :)
I'm anxious to read it but have to make time.
DeleteI hope you are feeling better now. I got Christmas Past but I am not reading holiday books until later in November or December. I am also interested in the books by Simone St James. I'be been wanting to read The Broken Girls. Have a wonderful week and some great reads!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
I'm like you. I don't think I can start holiday books until at least Thanksgiving has passed.
DeleteYep, brainless person in a horror movie - don't you just love that - were you shouting at the screen?
ReplyDeleteI love the pics of Cass and the fact that he's so happy in his bandana but then on the opposite side so miserable looking dressed up in the second picture.
Lynn :D
And there's almost always one of them present right? Yes, he loves bandanas but that's about it. He does wear his winter coat when it gets really cold but he's not even too thrilled about that.
DeleteHalloween mode is my favorite!! :) I've been doing well with my spooky reading, but slacking on my horror movie watching.
ReplyDeleteYou have been reading some really spooky books and I'm still a TAD envious of that Joe Hill/Stephen King event!
DeleteI love Cass as Loki! 🐾✨
ReplyDeleteWhen our indie bookstore went out the the two older owners made a YouTube video about how Amazon and our local college students killed their business, but they did a booming business selling bookish merchandise at Christmas, and I always stopped in to buy gift items for birthdays. There were always college students in the store, so if they weren't buying it was because there was nothing they wanted to buy. They probably could have sold tons of literary t-shirts and pretty journals. I think more indies have side hustles now, even if it's just used paperbacks. 📚
I love to support local stores but sometimes between budget and time, shopping on line is so much easier.
