Weekly Reads (02/03/17)

I feel like every week I'm coming her and mentioned what a crazy, hectic week it's been.  In fact, I'm now starting to think that crazy and hectic are the norm.  Mr. Barb is taking a Public Speaking class this first 1/2-term for college so I've been busy recording them and then figuring out technology so he can post them, view other and attend live ones on line.  Also, I've had to travel two days this week for work which has worn me out.  I don't mind driving, but I'm finding it really exhausts me over time.

We watched a few movies this week.  We ended up watching "When the Bough Breaks" which for some reason I thought was a remake of "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" - guess what, nope, it's not.  It was pretty good but pretty predictable in the "crazy surrogate" way.  Then we rented "The Girl With All the Gifts" which I really loved.  I haven't read the book, but do plan to since there is a sequel coming out.  The young lady who played the MC is awesome and I think it's a must-watch for any horror lover.  Finally, we watched Tyler Perry's "Boo! A Madea Halloween."  It was just what I expected but was good for a few laughs and I didn't have to think to hard to enjoy it.

I am almost finished with my current read, Bredan Reich's "Nemesis" and I am loving it.  However, I've heard it ends on a huge cliffhanger so we'll see how I feel about it at the end. After that, I hope to move on to "Death by Chocolate Lab" and "Guardian of Secrets" so not much has changed from last week.

The pups are doing great and Booker T has been taking hip and joint supplements (since he is almost 7 - no real problems yet) and he seems to want to play with Cassius more so they have been having some fun.  Not a lot of walks though because of rain and/or snow.

Hope everyone else out there has an awesome week ahead and thanks for stopping by.

  1. Good to hear that the furry guys are doing well. Wish Mr Barb good luck with his Public Speaking!

Hmmm, I bought The Girl with all the gifts as soon as I heard the dvd was out and I 'hope' to be watching it this weekend with any luck. I'm also looking forward to the sequel book!

    1. I hope you enjoy the movie. It was slower paced than I thought it might be but it was still pretty good. He's halfway done with his 8 week course. Then he has one more class afterwards to graduate. Thank heavens!

  2. Driving long distance is definitely exhausting. Seems strange since it's just sitting, but I guess maybe it's because you're so alert the whole time?

I have neither seen nor read The Girl with All the Gifts, but I've heard great things about the book and might give it a read eventually.

    1. I'm more interested to read it since I know the sequel is planned. I think it's probably more of a companion novel from what I hear.

  3. You really should read the Girl with all the Gifts, it's amazing. I haven't seen the movie but I don't know how it could possibly be better than the book!

  4. Wait. What? The Girl With All the Gifts is out for rental? For some reason, I thought it was hitting the indie films circuit first. Where did you find it?!

Glad your pups are doing well and hope you're able to get some rest this weekend after all of the travelling. I'll be painting my kitchen cabinets and listening to an audiobook.

    1. We were able to get it on Direct TV and I saw Chuckles mention that she bought the DVD as well. I was shocked when Direct sent me an email it was available because I knew it hadn't hit any theaters yet. I think the missed the mark and I don't understand why it wasn't a major release.

    2. We decided on Jane Doe (which was awesome, btw) because Directv wanted more $ for the rental and I'm cheap :)

  6. They made a movie out of The Girl With All the Gifts? I had no idea. I still need to read that book. I bought it ages ago and might even have the audio for it. I am glad to hear the pups are doing good. I can only imagine how exhausting traveling for work must be.

    1. Driving does make me tired. It catches up with you the more you do it.

  7. I'm excited to hear about Nemesis...not so excited to hear there might be a cliffhanger though, but if the book is that good, I won't mind playing the anticipation game for the sequel!

  9. I get crazy, chaotic, and hectic, Barb. I feel like that's my life as well. And driving is totally exhausting! I'm glad you and Mr. Barb had some down time to enjoy some movies together. That's great. I can't wait to see what you think of Guardian of Secrets. Enjoy your weekend!

  10. Hubs and I were just talking about watching The Girl With All the Gifts. I hope we get to this weekend. The book was awesome.

I dreaded speech in college. I took it in a mini-session. I had to give a speech every other day. It was grueling, but I got it over with in 10 days.
