Weekly Reads (06/30/17)

It's been a slow week at The Farm but today is my last work day until I have vacation for 9 glorious days so I've been trying to wrap some things up.  Last weekend Mr. Barb and I built a storage shed (a prefab one so don't think I've gone and went all construction zone on you guys) and it took awhile even though I equated it to giant Legos.  Because of that, I didn't really get much reading done.

We started watching "The Mist" on SPIKE TV and after the first 3 episodes, I think it has promise. It's a lot different than the movie though and the sheriff in it just has to go. I keep yelling for him to die.  We also rented "Twelve Feet Deep: Trapped Sisters."  It's about two sisters that get trapped beneath a pool cover for a holiday weekend and then are terrorized by a crazy woman on probation.  It was entertaining and we weren't having a lot of luck finding anything else.  I'm also binging "Riverdale" but I'll talk more about that on my Binge Watch meme I'm starting to do.

The pups are fine.  We bought them a new backyard tug toy which goes into the ground so I'm hoping to get it up this weekend.  We used to have a rope tied to a tree out past boxers would tug on but alas, that's the tree that we took down.  If Cass and T had tugged on it before we did that, I think the whole tree would have toppled - they are strong!

I finally finished "UNSUB" and got my review posted.  It actually gave me nightmares which I have't had a book do in a long time.  I can read horror book after horror book with no after effects but this involves a really sadistic serial killer and I'm pretty sure real people scare me more than monsters.  I think I'm going to pick up something light to sort of cleanse my pallet before I start in on anymore scary reads.  I also want to finish Saga Vol. 6.  Here's what the reading stack looks like.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned!  Please feel free to share what you are planning on reading and doing.

  2. Your boys are going to be excited by the new chew toy! I haven't seen the film of The Mist yet and didn't know there was a series. Come to think of it I haven't even read the book! I have got to start finding time for things other than reading! Have a good weekend!

    1. I think it was in one of his short story collections. Not sure which one. The movie was OK, and the series...well you can tell it's a TV series, but it still isn't bad.

  3. YAY NINE DAYS VACATION! Wow a nightmarish book! and you are not one to be easily shocked! I agree, stories that involved real evil people are worse than those about monster! Talking about nightmares… getting trapped beneath a pool cover is one of my recurring nightmares :( I hope that Sheriff Dies while you are on vacation :) LOL Now off to read your review of UnSub!

  7. I really need a storage shed. I have too much stuff just sitting out on the patio and taking up room (that I don't have) in the garage. That's great that you guys were able to get one that you could put together yourselves.

I keep forgetting about the Mist. That would be a good summer show to watch.

  9. I have a small breed mix, and honestly, tying a rope to a tree sounds just up her alley. She loves to play tugs. She also loves to play "rip apart the rope until it is just a mess of string", but I digress.

I am currently reading Lost Boy as well! I loved her Alice series. I am about 3/4 of the way done, and am really enjoying the new life she is breathing into the story for me.

Are you going anywhere for vacation, or just having a nice relaxing stay-cation?

    1. What's your dogs name? I bet she would love a tug. I know what you mean about reducing them to strings. I'm about 35% into Lost Boy but am loving it as well. We stay home on vacations and spend time with each other, family and the pups. I really wouldn't have it any other way.
