Weekly Reads (04-13-17) Happy Friday the 13th!

So we only got a dusting of snow last weekend so I was happy about that and today it's supposed to reach close to 80.  Nothing like one extreme to another.  Mr. Barb is still not 100% but managed to go back to work mid-week except now I've been under the weather.  It started last Saturday when I was visiting Gpa and escalated.  I've been OD'ing on Vitamin C and Mucinex and have been holding it at bay fairly well but I just want it gone for good.  Also, because I was sick, I totally picked up a book that wasn't on my TBR last Sunday and read the whole thing before naps.  You should see that review next week.

There hasn't been a lot of new movies coming out to rent but we did watch "The Commuter."  I'm pretty sure I have enjoyed almost every movie I've ever watched with Liam Neeson and this one was no exception.  "Lost in Space" starts on Netflix today so I may give this reboot a try.  Also, it's the season finale for "The Walking Dead" Sunday night so we'll be glued to the TV to see who dies.  I'm not as invested in it as I once was but Mr. Barb still loves it and it is fun to watch it together.

This week I want to get some more reading done.  I'm almost 1/2 through "Murder on Black Swan Lane" and enjoying it and I have to pick up "Let Me Lie" next before it expires.  I hope to also throw in a graphic novel somewhere.

So how was your week and what are your weekend plans???

  1. I'm pretty sure the infections I got as a kid weren't as bad as these things doing the rounds now. It's taking forever to get rid of these flu and virus things. Hope you feel better soon and I'm glad Mr Barb is on the mend.

    1. I will feel better for a day or two, and then feel badly for a day or two. It's like it won't let go and honestly I'm getting sick of it!

  2. Hope you are feeling better. I am helping with a story book event for little ones at my library on Saturday and then I have to go to a baby shower. Hopefully I will have some time to read!

  3. Sorry you guys are sick☹ I am tied up all weekend with a big choir event at my daughter's school, so my reading time is going to be limited. I hope to finish The Oracle Year though, it's so good!

    1. Glad you are really enjoying The Oracle Year. I've been seeing it around quite a bit. Hope you got a few minutes to relax this weekend. Those kids will sure keep you hopping.

  4. I love Liam Neeson' smovies too. The Schindler List is my second all-time favorite movie [after GUillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth] So I'll make sure to check out the commuter! Can't wait to hear about "Murder on Black Swan Lane" I also got a graphic novel! Which is very unusual. Hope you guys feel better!

    1. What graphic novel did you get? Once you make that crossover, you'll find more and more you want to check out.

    1. I think it was more of a cold/sinus thing. I've managed to avoid the flu so far (knocking on wood).

  7. Ooh I could deal with 80's! It's still a little too chilly here although we did hit 60's yesterday. Hallelujah! Today back in the 40's...

Anyway hope you're feeling better! I'm really curious about Lost in Space!

And Let Me Lie looks great too.

  8. Hope you're feeling better soon! At least you have some good tv to watch while you're getting better. Don't forget garlic too! I put it in everything while my hubby is sick, or when one of us is starting to feel under the weather. It's like a miracle drug!

Can't wait for Lost in Space! Thank you for the reminder! Hope that's going to be good!

    1. I forgot all about garlic. My husband used to take garlic supplements. Maybe I should remind him to get back on them.

    1. So, did you like the finale? I was somewhat disappointed. It was good, but it felt like a series ender to me.

  10. The weather has been insane lately, hasn't it? WE've been mid-seventies for the last two days, and it's supposed to snow on Monday. Like...really, Mother Nature? REALLY??

I stopped watching The Walking Dead a long time go, but I kept up on the recaps online for quite a while. Now I don't even do that. I've just completely lost interest in it, I guess.

    1. I will be honest and say you aren't missing a whole lot. I still watch it but it's more out of habit now than anything else.

  11. I was seriously eyeing Let Me Lie but I'm not savvy enough about the mystery/thriller genre these days to know if it's going to be the kind of book I'll like. I hope you get a chance to read it, I'd love to hear what you think!

    1. I've been burned by thrillers in the past so I hope this isn't one of them.
