Weekly Reads (07/19/18)

So this week's weather has been more hot than not. The forecast keeps promising us rain, but never delivers.  Everything is so dry so I'm hoping the rain promised this weekend shows up - just keep the storms away please.  Can you believe some idiots in the neighborhood are still randomly letting off fireworks.  Poor Booker T was outside last night and one went off around the corner and then I couldn't get him back out.  However, for some reason, he's fearless at 3am - cause that's almost ALWAYS when he wakes me up to take him out in the middle of the night.

I've done some reading this week but won't lie, it's been more of a movie week.  Stormi did convince me to participate in COYER's Christmas in July Challenge so we ended up accidentally buddy reading another book this month.  Sometimes our reading tastes are so common it's scary!  So I became obsessed with a new series - Claws.  This show is a hot mess and centers around the Dixieland mafia and these women who work at a nail salon.  It's like a train wreck, but I can't look away so I've managed to watch the entire first season on Hulu the past 2 weeks.

Mr. Barb and I also had a throwback movie weekend.  We watched "Salem's Lot" on Saturday night and then watched "Return to Salem's Lot" on Sunday.  I never realized until this time around that the creepy little vampire girl obsessed with kissing and sex is actually Tara Reid.  Seems so obvious right?

I finished reading "Lizzie" and also a Christmas cozy " 'Twas the Knife Before Christmas" and as I am typing this (a day ahead on Thursday), I'm at a loss what to pick up next.  Here are the main contenders. I'm in such a mood though that I could possibly chose something different too.

Oh and one of my favorite series FINALLY starts back up tonight.  Looks like the makings of a good weekend.  You can find it on Cinemax.

So what are your plans this week????

  1. Poor Booker T! I hate fireworks and always dread that stupid Bonfire Night that we have. Why we bother to celebrate the fact that terrorists once failed to blow up Parliament is anyone's guess. It's dumb and upsets lots of people and animals. It's so long since I saw Return to Salems Lot that I can't remember anything about it!

This weekend I hope to get my new bookcase in place and start sorting my books into a proper order! I plan to have a shelf for fantasy, one for SF and adventures and thrillers to make my mood reading a bit easier!

    1. Return to Salem's Lot really isn't that good - but hey, we were in the mood for cheesy 80's horror...

  2. Ugh! I hate fireworks... We still have people setting them off in my area, but ALWAYS at 10:45 pm! Why?!?! I hope you all have a great week!

    1. Wow, idiots on a consistent schedule. I don't get the novelty of them. I don't mind the city/fair ones but not individual ones. I have better things to waste my money on.

  3. The Last Time I Lied was good but not great. I have heard great things about Baby Teeth. I feel like I am in a reading slump as well. Just waiting to read all those dog books I have been saving!

    1. Well I have Final Girls 2/5 so I'm at least hoping I like it better. Mr. Barb just bought me a new dog book today!

  4. I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on Baby Teeth, I've read one review that completely trashed it, but its getting so much buzz! Sorry about the fireworks. I hate them, and we have neighbors that just won't quit too😡

    1. It is getting a lot of buzz, which is why I'm a tad afraid to read it. People just don't realize it's not the 4th anymore!

  5. Fireworks - so annoying, my dog is terrified. My reading has been slow for a few weeks now. I blame the weather, i just want to lollop around and watch tv/movies.

  6. We have idiot neighbors who blow off fireworks all year long on the weekend. I always think it's a gun shot and jump out of my skin. And then my poor pets are terrified for hours. I hope you get some rain. We're supposedly getting the entirety of next week because, naturally, I am on vacation :( Have a great weekend, Barb & boys.

    1. In our town, it could easily be a gunshot. I never thought I'd long for the country living I had growing up. Hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend too!

  7. All the lawns in our neighborhood are dried out and yellow, I guess this no rain thing has been happening all around the country. And we had people blowing off leftover fireworks too. My dogs are pretty chill though, they are pretty nonchalant about thunder and fireworks and other loud noises so I guess we got lucky there, because all the other neighborhood dogs are terrified.

    1. Glad your dogs are chill. We've had a mix. Cass doesn't seem too afraid of them but he does feed on T so if he gets really nervous, Cass seems to follow.

  8. I am ready for the fireworks to stop. There have been a couple of nights that we had to carry our 40 pound dog outside and make her go before bed because she is so traumatized. I hope you enjoy your planned reads :)
