Weekly Reads/Stacking the Shelves/Sunday Post (11-09-18)

To say it's been a heck of a week at The Farm is an understatement.  Many of you already know that I was T-boned Monday by a BIG SUV.  I was at stop light and a lady was pulling out of a side street.  She "looked but didn't see me" and whammed right into my driver's door.  5 hours later at the ER room I was given the clear but each day is a lesson in what hurts now.  It could have been worse though because she was fully insured and completely at fault.  I'm waiting for someone to contact me about repairing my truck and finishing up the medical stuff (which will be ongoing for a while).  I have a rental for 15 more days which will help as well.  I want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and messages!  Enough of that mess.....

On to a new one.  This was also the week the kitchen was getting new flooring and ceiling.  The guy told Mr. Barb he could do it in one long day with his "helper."  We we are now on one long day and three long evenings but I hope that by the time you see this, his part is done!  I really just want to sleep people!

So basically TV watching has been limited (we did watch the Steeler game Thursday) and I managed to get two books read but I really hope to have a somewhat relaxing weekend.  Here are the books I'd like to get to in the upcoming week:

Stacking the Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves or TBR piles, may it be physical or virtual.  This means you cans you cam include books you buy in a physical store, online, books you borrow from the library or friends, review books, gifts and of course, ebooks! The original meme was started over at Tynga's Reviews. And it now has a new co-host where individuals can link up as well - Marlene from Reading Reality.  Clicking on the book (or title) should take you to the Goodreads page.  I'm also now linking up with the Sunday Post which is hosted by Kimberly@Caffeinated Book Reviewer

I had an epic library haul this week. I had requested these and since my library chose to order them all (they are so great), they all came in at once.  I've seen awesome reviews of "Sawkill Girls" and can't wait to read it.  I am a tad worried over "The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel" because La La in the Library said it was too much romance and I trust her judgement.  "Agony House" has such cool formatting and I adore Cherie Priest and I saw "Riddance" somewhere and was pretty curious. It actually has a much longer title so check out Goodreads - oh, and it's horror.

Finally I got three new review books from Netgalley and the publishers.  "Dead as a Door Knocker" and "A Literal Mess" are the first in new cozy series and "Save Me From Dangerous Men" is a new thriller coming out in March.

So what do you have planned this coming week and did you add any new and exciting books???

  1. I'm reading an Anthony Renfro book right now (not sure what to think of it) plus a very helpful book for creatives called Manage Your Day-to-Day by 99U.

The Riddance cover drew me in. It doesn't LOOK scary with blood or dead bodies or whatever, but it immediately said "horror" to me for some reason because there's something deliciously off-kilter about the image. I just read the blurb on Amazon. Added it to my TBR! Can't wait to hear what you think.

  2. That accident sounded crazy, sorry you had to go through that. I hope your truck gets back to normal soon (and you of course!) I'm curious about Riddance, I'm going to check it out.

    1. I hope so too. So far, it's still sitting in the driveway waiting for a tow truck to take it to the shop. I figure if they want to take their time and keep paying for a rental, I'm not stressing about it.

  3. Again, so sorry about the accident. My parents were in an accident this week too. The other person's fault as well. My dad texted me to tell me! I called him and said YOU DON"T TEXT SOMEONE THAT TYPE OF INFORMATION!!! lol They are fine. They were in a Durango so not much damage.

House improvements can sometimes be the worst. We started painting all the trim and cabinets in our house in June. We are still working on it!!!! We get new carpet Tuesday. Hopefully it will only take a couple hours like they promised cause I will have to kennel the dogs and they don't like that.

Enjoy all your new books. The cozy mysteries look fun. I finally broke down and bought one at a thrift store. Hope you have a better week.

    1. Yea, I think I'm probably guilty of texting my Mom from the ER. At that time I was fine and she was at work. Whether it's a text or a call, no one wants to receive it huh? The kitchen is taking shape but it's been a process. I put off the rest of the painting until next weekend. It was wearing me out.

  4. Nice horror picks. I am kicking myself that I did not request Sawkill Girls when I had the chance, back around the time it came out. I had a meh experience with the author's fantasy, but apparently her horror/thriller is much better.

  5. Oh no sorry to hear about your accident! Yikes. Glad it wasn't worse though, but yeah... you must be in pain all over. Hope you have a super relaxing weekend and the floor guys get done.

I wanted to read Spellbook too but I also saw LaLa's comment, and now I'm leery of it too.

  7. I was just so relieved that you escaped that accident without serious harm. Hopefully the pains will gradually go away. I hope there is progress with your kitchen Barb! Ugh workmen! It's so stressful! Our fence guys worked very hard with very little break and got it basically done in two days with one half day of clearing up everything. They left the gardens spotless so we were very pleased! I hope it is worth it when your kitchen is all done!

    1. Glad you got the fence up finally. I know what a chore that was for you. The remainder of the kitchen work is on us - a little bit more painting and some cleaning. It's a lot better off than it was though. Thanks for the well wishes - I am feeling better.

  9. Ooh, that accident takes me back to when I was rammed from behind by an SUV at a stop light. It took a long time to fully recover...I still have neck and back issues, but some of those are from other events.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  10. I'm glad to hear that the woman who hit you is fully insured! I hope you start feeling much less sore soon, but definitely stay aware of issues that may arise in the future.

Mutts and Mistletoe looks so cute. I hope you enjoy it and have a good weekend. - Katie

  14. Your library sounds great.
That accident was so bad but at least the other driver had insurance - I know that isn't the bee all and end all but it could have been so much worse. And then having your kitchen done too - I completely sympathise. I feel for you.
