I Guess I'm Just Trash for Riverdale

TITLE: Riverdale: The Day Before
AUTHOR: Micol Ostow
PUBLISHER: Scholastic
PUBLISHING DATE: 2018

FROM GOODREADS: Based on the massively successful CW show, Riverdale, this prequel novel explores what the gang was doing before Season One.

Why did Jughead and Archie have a falling out? What did Veronica's life look like in the Big Apple? And how long has Betty really been in love with Archie?

Told from multiple points of view, your favorite characters tell their story their way.

MY THOUGHTS: I am such a sucker for anything "dark" Riverdale so when I saw this at WalMart a few months ago, there was no doubt it was going home with me.  Basically "Riverdale: The Day Before" is just that.  The day before the first season of the hit show happens - or more like a few days.  There are chapters told from the POV of all the characters and I have to admit they made me love Jughead ever more, question why Archie ever thought it was a good idea to have an affair with his teacher, and make Veronica even more unlikable - at least in the beginning.  I do question Betty doing an internship with a magazine in California because I don't know that I've ever heard anything about that in the TV show.

There is really no deep plot to this book and if you don't like the series, I can't really recommend you pick it up. It was a entertaining way to kill a few hours and I see there is a second one coming out soon that happens after the whole Black Hood incident.  And yep, I'll probably be trash for that one as well.

RATING: 3 Paws

  1. I haven't ever watched the series and know nothing about it I'm afraid! I used to get these companion reads for things like Buffy and Stargate and they can be fun reads!

    1. Yea it was fun but nothing major. I will probably pick up the next one though so I guess it wasn't that bad.

  2. I like how you embrace that you're trash for this show and am just going for it. I'm like that with the X-files (mostly).

    1. Yes you definitely should watch the show. It's the only reason I even grabbed this book. Season 1 is awesome and then it progressively gets more out there and it kind of enters the "can't look away" phase.

    1. It does get crazier and crazier and this year involves a D&D game called Griffins & Gargoyles and a cult.
