What's Happening...(03-01-19)

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So I'm having a hard time accepting it's March 1st as I type this but the calendar say so so it must be true!  And it seems like our regularly scheduled March snowstorm is on its way and should arrive Sunday.  According to all the weather reports, we are due to get anywhere for 2-8.  They can't make up their minds so I think if that's the case, we shouldn't get any.

As far as TV, we've managed to get half way through Season 2 of The Oath so the end is near.  I liked Season 1 better but this season is still good.  We also watched "The Possession of Hannah Grace" this week.  As far as possession movies goes, this one took a different angle and I really enjoyed it.  Although it starred one of the "Pretty Little Liars" but I won't hold that against it.  I'm trying to convince Mr. Barb to watch "Bohemian Rhapsody" this weekend.  We're not HUGE Queen fans but do like the occasional song here and there.

The pups are doing well.  Booker T has a small cut on his elbow but I think he had an itch and dug it.  It isn't bad, it just happens to be the elbow Cass mauled a few years back.  We put antibiotic on it.  We've also started him on joint medication because our little boy will be 9 in a few months.  Where has the time gone?  Also, Mr. Barb is having his gall bladder out Wednesday.  He's put it off for years but it has to be done.  I'm sure it will go well but he's a tad anxious about it.  I keep telling him if I can do it, he can.

So this week as usual I want to get some reading done.  Saturday will be kind of full with errands and such but I think Sunday should be low-key.  Here's the books I'd like to focus on for the upcoming week.

I had a hold come in at the library and while I was there, just had to look at the new release shelf - since it's right by the entrance.  Thus, two more came home with me.  I've been hearing a lot about "Looker" and it's relatively short.  I'm on a good run with thrillers so we'll see.  "Ship of Smoke and Steel" is what I originally went in  for and will be used for one of my challenges.  And I think I saw a blogger I regularly follow raving about "The City in the Middle of the Night" but then again I might be wrong.

And finally I picked up a freebie or two which I think are worth sharing.  As usual, check before you click.  "Dating an Alien Pop Star" was a complete title grab.  Aren't you curious too?  I know it's usually dogs you see but I love all animals so that's why I grabbed "Jubilee The Love Story" when I saw it.  And "Good Intentions" involves paramedics in Memphis and a little horror thrown in.  Don't know if it's fantastical horror or real-life horror.  Great cover though.

So there you have it.  If you are in the path of storms - snow or rain - stay safe.  And what books and TV will be occupying your time???

  1. I hope everything goes nice and smoothly for Mr Barb this week. I can understand him being anxious but he'll feel better once it;s over. Give Booker T a hug as well!

It seems like the UK is to be hit by storms this weekend and snow. I'm hoping it passes us by as I don't really want wild weather right now! My dad and I are watching Sasuke in the afternoons which is a lot of fun and I'm all about winter horror books this weekend!

    1. Booker T is already healed now just to get past Wednesday. I hope you didn't get hit too hard weather wise.

  2. Your upcoming books look SO GOOD! I am 10 pages into Dinosaur Lake by Kathryn Meyer Griffeth. I saw a review of a later book in the series (maybe your review?), and it sounded so good I picked up the first book!

    1. I think Laura reads a lot of her books. I read one called Witches a few years back but have more I'd like to get to.

  3. I am very interested in Jubilee. I have heard joint medication does wonders on senior pups. My chihuahua mix is 9 years old too but since she is a smaller breed I don't think her joints hurt yet. She still acts like a puppy. Have a great week!

    1. I've had good luck with it. I buy bags of the chewable kind because he won't eat anything else. Barkley, one of our other boxers, used to eat any pill you'd give to him. Booker T turns 9 in a few months. Where do the years go?

  4. Good luck to Mr. Barb! I really enjoyed The Chrysalis, it wasn't what I expected but still a really good story. I'm a big Charlie Jane Anders fan and I need to get ahold of her new book at some point 😊

    1. I do remember you liking her really well. Maybe that's what I was thinking when I saw it.

  5. I would highly recommend Bohemian Rhapsody. I didn't think I really wanted to watch it, but I loved it - and I've had their music stuck in my head for weeks!

    1. We did end up watching it and it was so good. I really think Freddie had a tragic story to tell and I felt badly for him at times. And yes, the music does stick!

  6. I can't believe it's March already either. I woke up to snow. But only a light dusting, so it could've been worse. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and The Chrysalis look like awesome reads. I'm adding them to my list. :) Have a great weekend!

    1. I am about 10% into The Dark Descent after not getting much read this weekend except an odd graphic novel. It's interesting but slower paced.

  7. I like your reasoning about the snow! If the forecasters can't get it straight, just call the whole snowstorm off. :)

Good luck to Mr. on the surgery, and I've been thinking of getting Bohemian Rhapsody too. I'm the same way- not a HUGE fan but I do like some of their stuff.

    1. Yes, the forecasters should listen to us. The movie was really good and I would recommend it. That's coming from a casual fan as well so I think you'd like it.

  8. Ooh, The Chrysalis and The Ship of Smoke and Steel! The latter I still have to read but hopefully March will be the month. Enjoy your books!

  10. I knew there was more winter coming. I noticed we are dipping back to 50s with low 40s at night this week. Stay warm and I hope everything goes well with your husband's surgery and Booker T heals quickly.

  11. I am so ready for all of these snow storms to just go away for a while. I hope that Mr. Barb's surgery goes well for him. I am sorry to hear that your boy has a cut. I start worrying about my babies as they get older. My Cookie dog turned 14 a few days ago. I hope you have a great week!

  12. I loved The Dark Descent of EF, one of my favorites of all time. I didn't get it enough attention but I will. I want to write a review and maybe have a giveaway of it just because I loved it so much. I hope you enjoy the new books and we got 6 1/2 inches on Sunday. =)

    1. I finished it and quite enjoyed it. I disliked Elizabeth in the beginning but toward the end she had really grown on me. That's a lot of snow!

  13. I must have been pretty highed up on cold medicine on Sunday because you are about the fifth person I swear I commented on their blog! I remember reading the posts, but there are no comments. 😂

I hope the week has treated you well. 👍✨

    1. I definitely understand that feeling this week. I've had the worst cold I've had in three years all week! Mucinex has become my best friend - well, that and hot toddies.
