Weekly Reads (03/17/17)

OK, so what I really want to know is where did Spring go.  I know technically it's not Spring yet, but we've had some of the coldest days of the season the past few days.  Of course, I'm not REALLY complaining because at least we didn't get the snow a lot of the Northeast did.  Last weekend Mr. Barb and I went out to eat with my Grandpa.  He has had some drama the past few weeks with  my cousins and their two kids living with him but I hope it's finally ironed out.  All I can say is if they mess with Grandpa again, they are going to have to deal with me.

We have been watching some TV and movies this week when Mr. Barb hasn't been watching ESPN to keep up with football free agency news.  We finally watched "Fences" and I really wasn't impressed.  I mean, I can see it is a well done movie and there's some great acting in it, but Denzel Washington's character as a real jerk...and I don't like Denzel being a jerk.  I also finished watching "Santa Clarita Diet" on Netflix and actually found it to be an entertaining dark comedy.  Hope it's renewed.  Now I'm starting "Jessica Jones" fully realizing I'm late to that party.

I got some good reading done this week and here's what's coming up next:

I am super loving "Elvis and the Grateful Dead" and am not sure why I waited so long to check out book 2 from the library.  I need to start "The Jekyll Revelation " for a "Two Bloggers One Book" feature.  I also can't wait to see what happens next in "Chew: Vol. 2."  Hopefully I get lots of reading time in this weekend.

The boys are doing fine and Booker T is getting ready to share his thoughts about Elvis the Basset Hound.  Cassius will no longer be grounded soon so look for a post from here too.  In the meantime, here are a few pics of my gorgeous sons.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!!!

  1. I have wanted to start Jessica Jones too but my TV time suddenly went to nothing. Which doesn't usually get better come summer.

    1. I usually am bad about watching it before bed and then before I know it, it's hard to get up in the morning for work because I stayed up too late. Binge watching is addictive so I try not to do it too much.

  2. Seriously, the past few nights have been the coldest it's been all winter long! It's supposed to be warming up, not getting colder!

Yay, you're finally getting to the Jekyll book! I really want to know what that one is like. Hope you enjoy it!

    1. I started it last night Kristen. I'm only through the first three chapters but so far it's kept my interest and if I hadn't needed to go to bed, I'd have kept on reading.

  3. I can't motivate myself to watch any drama or film but I seem fine with watching some good ole dangerous job reality TV! I'm rewatching Gold Rush at the moment, a couple of episodes each night after I get some reading in. Still on season one but it's fun watching it again!

I don't tend to watch most of the critically acclaimed or Oscar nominated films as most turn out to be well acted but slow or a grim story. When I do watch films I tend to go for gory horror and action blockbusters!

    1. I saw a new reality show last week being advertised called "Love & Vets." It's about a family where both parents are vets and they have all kinds of animals and kids running around. I may try to catch it. Most of the time I find the Oscar movies flat. I can appreciate the good work that goes in to them, but they usually aren't my type of movie.

  4. We have loved all the Marvel series on Netflix, especially Jessica Jones! Ironfist starts tonight!

The Night the Lights Went Out is on my TBR - I just love that cover!

    1. I love the cover as well. I don't know if Mr. Barb is really wanting to watch Ironfist, but I think it looks pretty good. Netflix is killing it with some of the marvel series.

  5. Sorry to hear about the weather, in California it's like summer right now. I'm longing for spring weather because we don't really get spring here. Love the photos of your boys! Have a great weekend:-)

    1. Thanks Tammy. My husband also mentions he thinks the weather would be great in California but man, that would be a long move - haha.

  6. I am like you I just don't like Densel being bad or a jerk, etc. He is the good guy! :) I tried to watch Jessica Jones but it was boring to me and I don't think even dad cared for it cause we never finished the series, so hope you like it and maybe you can tell me if it gets better...lol. :)

I hope we both enjoy Jekyll Revelution! :)

    1. I've watched the first three and it does tend to get better as it goes but I'm not completely sold. Mr. Barb doesn't really care for it though. Probably not enough action for him.

  7. I agree that nobody should mess with Grandpa! Your boys are just adorable, Barb. I am ready for spring to get her and stay a while. I don't like this cold stuff coming back for a visit.

  8. Nope, spring's not quite here yet and it seems winter wants us to remember that, lol...been a bad few days here too with the sudden cold snap and snow. Hopefully things will warm up soon again. Have a great weekend and enjoy your reads!

    1. We had about a half hour of heavy snow Friday evening and I have no idea where it came from because I don't think it was in the forecast. It's supposed to be 61 but rainy Monday.

  9. Ha! That's what I get for being so far behind. I see that you did watch Santa Clarita Diet. :) It was hilarious. I really liked Jessica Jones. It took a couple of episodes for me to get hooked, but then I really dug it.

    1. Jessica Jones does seem to take some time. I think I'm on episode 4. I am so glad I gave Santa Clarita Diet a chance.
