What's Happening...(10-19-19)

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So for lack of a better word it's been kind of a melancholy week at The Farm.  I've not done a lot of reading.  In fact, on two different nights I read nothing at all which is VERY strange for me.  I did finish one book last weekend and finally squeezed in a graphic novel one evening.  Poor Cass has even seemed down in the dumps but I think he's picking up on my vibe.  Mr. Barb also worked more than normal which threw Cass off too.

So I finally managed to pinpoint the issue - I think it all boils down to Booker T.  I'm missing him like crazy.  He always loved Halloween and when putting out some of the decorations and lights I couldn't help but realize the empty space he left.  Also, I've started shopping some for Christmas and I always worked so hard to find the perfect toys, blankets and treats for the pups and now it's just Cass and it just sucks.  If I found the perfect dragon toy, I'd get different colors and buy in twos but this year there's just one.  I also had a digital painting made for Mr. Barb for our Anniversary in November (he doesn't read the blog so it's safe) of Booker T and it turned out gorgeous and of course I cried.  So as if it isn't enough, I'm doing it to myself!  But we will persevere.

So reading....I do need to get some done this weekend because I'm massively behind.  Here is what is up on the stack. "Tinfoil Butterfly" is a horror novel I had on hold that came in this week and even though it wasn't on the TBR, I started it.  Such a mood reader.  And of course nothing's changed from last week and I STILL need to start "Slash" and "Magic Strikes."

I did snag a few review books but nothing like that week.  "Curious Toys" is a book I featured on Can't Wait Wednesday some time ago and "A Witch in Time" doesn't come out until 2020 so it will be a while before I need to get to it.

And finally I will leave you with Cass's Instagram post for the week.  See, even he looks rather depressed.  Hopefully I can get a happier shot next week!

So I hope you all had a wonderful week.  Are you reading or watching anything good?  Please let me know so I can add MORE books and movies to my list!

  1. I think it's high time I finally took the plunge and read something by Hunter Shea - Slash looks good, so that's going on list to be considered. I am also very curious about Tinfoil Butterfly. Hope that one's going well for you!

    1. Yes you should. I've loved practically everything I've ever read by him. His creature features are great, but the book Creature, which has more of a human side, is one of my faves - and the beagle lives!

  2. I'm so sorry that you're all having such a rough time at the moment. Poor Booker T...I still think about him when Cass does his posts. You're right, Cass does look sad in the photo. I'm sure Mr Barb will love the painting!

    1. I'm glad I can keep his memory alive through the blog as well as other ways. I can't wait to give Mr. Barb his gift but I have to wait until November 23rd.

  3. I'm so sorry this time of the year is hard for you guys, Barb. Can you show us the painting you got of Booker T for Mr Barb? Or did I miss it?

    1. I want to get it framed and then I will be sure to post a picture of it and mention it on Instagram. It turned out lovely.

  4. I also need to do a LOT of catching up. October has ruined me - I'm just so far behind now that I almost feel like giving up and starting afresh with November - although obviously I won't do.
    Happy reading to you.

    1. What's up with October huh? I know several people who are struggling. I love horror so it should be a natural month to be awesome but this year it just isn't happening!

  6. He does look sad. Our beloved furry friends always leave such empty spaces. My dog wouldn't eat for almost a week after his best friend died. I had to feed him like she did to finally get him to eat. I hope you feel brighter soon:)

    1. Cass is such a picky eater anyway that his eating habits didn't change much when Booker passed. Cass is hard to get a good picture of so he may not have been so much sad as he was "Mom get out of my face."

  7. Oh no, I'm so sorry you're having a difficult time. Losing a pet is the absolute worst. I'm glad you're letting yourself cry though! I know so many people that force themselves to "get over it" and that's not healthy. Sending you lots of love!

    1. Yea, we definitely haven't forced anything. Pets are valuable family members.

  8. I'm sorry it's been so rough. I don't know how you can delay reading Magic Shifts though. I binged the first books when I found the series in less than a week, I think and now when I get an Ilona Andrews book I drop everything else and read it! Have a better week and happy reading!

    1. I will in time. I think it's that time of the year as well. It's getting darker, less sun and all that.

  11. You never stop missing those that you love. It is even worse when the loss is fresh. I am so sorry about Booker. I hope you, Mr. Barb, and Cass have a much better week.

  12. (((((((HUGS))))))) I found two different rescue kittens this month to adopt, but my son says he's not ready yet, and I feel like a total schmuck because Atticus was really my cat and here I am thinking of getting a new cat. I did get sad when I was looking for new Christmas tree lights, though, because I was going to do a small Slytherin tree for her. I hope you get to feeling better about the holidays. It can take a long time to feel right again. 💟💟💟

I love the cover of Curious Toys. 📚

I enjoy Cass's modeling photos on IG! 🐾✨

I hope your week is going well. 🌞

    1. You know, there's never really a timetable - all people are different. I have a friend who went out the next day after her beloved dog died because she couldn't stand to be alone. I think you should go ahead a do a Slytherin tree in memory - you could make pet ornaments for it.

  13. Ooh, I feel for you. I keep looking at my pooch and it makes me sad just thinking of what you're going through.
GIve Cass a big hug and think of all your lovely times.
    Sorry you're sad.
