Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: One night in an isolated college town in the hills of Southern California, a first-year student stumbles into her dorm room, falls asleep—and doesn’t wake up. She sleeps through the morning, into the evening. Her roommate, Mei, cannot rouse her. Neither can the paramedics who carry the girl away, nor the perplexed doctors at the hospital.
Then a second girl falls asleep, and then a third, and panic takes hold of the college and spreads to the town. As the number of cases multiplies, classes are canceled. A quarantine is established. Mei, an outsider in the hierarchy of dorm life, finds herself thrown together with an eccentric, idealistic classmate.
A psychiatrist summoned from Los Angeles attempts to make sense of the phenomenon as it spreads. Those infected, she discovers, are displaying unusual levels of brain activity, higher than has ever been recorded before. They are dreaming heightened dreams—but of what?
Gorgeously written, The Dreamers is a breathtaking novel, startling and provocative, about the possibilities contained within a human life—in our waking days and, perhaps even more, in our dreams.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I saw this on someone's blog last week (sorry I can't remember where or I'd give you credit) and while the cover caught my eye, it was the synopsis that kept my attention. I want to earn more about why all these people are falling asleep and won't wake up.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK?
Sounds interesting. I wonder if the book gives a POV to see what the dreams are?
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
DeleteHow intriguing. Not entirely sure if this is my cup of tea, but I find curious about the dream aspect. Great find, Barb!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteDoesn't taking a really long nap sound great? lol . This is such an interesting premise! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely. That's probably what initially intrigued me the most to be honest.
DeleteOoh, this sounds really good. Will definitely keep a look out for this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Lynn :D
You're quite welcome!
DeleteI have been seeing this one everywhere, Barb! I definitely want to read it and look forward to your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. Hope it doesn't get too much hype - those books scare me!
DeleteI loved her book The Age of Miracles, I would love to read this😊
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that one. Will have to look into it.
DeleteThis sounds really great. Adding it to my wishlist...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteI am SO excited for this one. I hope it's as lovely as her debut.
ReplyDeleteI apparently need to check this debut book out!
DeleteHmm, sounds reminiscent of Stephen & Owen King's Sleeping Beauties, but I like the concept.
ReplyDeleteI thought of that too but since I've yet to read that one, I think I'll start with this one instead.
DeleteI'm adding this one to my list because I like stories with college settings.
ReplyDeleteThey can make for a good story.
DeleteI remember reading about this one, maybe last week. Doesn't it sound good? I want to read it too!
ReplyDeleteI just wish I knew where saw it because like you, I'm pretty sure it was just last week.
DeleteWOWZA!!! This SURE is a fascinating concept for a book!! A bunch of "Sleeping Beauties" (male and female, I suppose, right?), and no evil witch or fairy to cast a sleeping spell in sight? (No Prince or Princess Charming either, huh?)
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm TOTALLY intrigued, my friend!! So, I'm adding this one to my already overstuffed virtual Goodreads shelves!
Thanks for sharing this FASCINATING book!! HUGS TO YOU AND THOSE LOVABLE PUPS!! EXTRA HUGS & CONGRATS TO BOOKER T. FOR HIS RECOVERY!! AND, OF COURSE, "WOOF, WOOF" TO THEM BOTH!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
P.S. And thanks for commenting on my own CWW post!! ARF, ARF!! <3 :)
DeleteI know. If my TBR ever caves in, I'm in trouble!
DeleteThat is an intriguing premise. And I like the author. Two reasons to put this one on my TBR list. :)
ReplyDeleteHope I haven't steered you wrong!
DeleteI do like the sound of this one. I wonder if we as readers ever get to experience what these dreamers are experiencing or if it just focuses on outsiders looking in.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, it will definitely make the book more interesting.
DeleteSounds like an interesting read!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicci
DeleteI seem to recall that this is actually a thing, isn't it? There is an illness where people fall asleep and don't wake up again. Wasn't Robin Williams in the a film about the dr who managed to wake them up again for a while? Only for them to fall asleep again one by one - based on a true story... I hope you enjoy this one, Barb. Isn't that cover lovely?
ReplyDeleteYes, it was called Awakenings. But I've not seen it and had to Google it to figure it out. My fave R. Williams movie is What Dreams May Come when so when you mentioned him and people being asleep, that's all I could think of.
DeleteSounds like a pretty interesting mystery to get to the bottom of, and I like the cover too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Sam.
DeleteOoh I totally want to know why they are falling asleep, and what it means!!
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteThis sounds intriguing! I love the premise...and it is kind of disconcerting too, the idea of falling asleep and not waking up, and what all the girls have in common that are making them dream like that. I'm curious for sure.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Definitely lots of curiosity here!
DeleteThis sounds so cool! I'm definitely intrigued.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteOh wow, I really want to know why everyone is falling asleep and can't be rouse! Great pick. I'll be adding this one to my TBR as well.
ReplyDeleteHope you love it Suzanne.
DeleteThis does sound interesting! I want to know why they are all falling asleep too.
ReplyDeleteSeems a lot of people are curious.
DeleteOMG this one sounds amazing! Not going to lie if I had to pick an epidemic to get infected with a sleeping one seems right up my alley I do love to sleep!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both!
DeleteIt sounds both fascinating and frightening. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!
DeleteYou are right, that synopsis is a grabber! I will be looking out for reviews, thats for sure. Thanks for the heads up. 📚✨
ReplyDeleteI hope it's as good as it sounds!
