Weekly Reads/Stacking the Shelves (177)/Sunday Post

So I was wondering if anyone has a preference of whether I combine all of three of these posts or if you'd rather see it on separate days like it's been in the past.  It's a combination of being lazy/wanting to add some new Friday content on my part but I've not made any real decisions yet.

The only real movie we streamed this week was The First Purge.  It wasn't bad and Mr. Barb is a huge fan of the franchise so we enjoyed it.  We've also been watching the limited series on USA Network so by the end of it, I'll be purged out.  Other than that we've been watching some of our favorite TV shows which just started back up - Law & Order SVU, The Big Bang Theory, This is Us and Chicago PD.

Booker T and Cassius are doing fine.  Booker T made me laugh so hard this week.  I came home from work one evening and ran upstairs to change.  Cass followed and I was kind of playing with him so I kept yelling for Booker.  He never came.  I went downstairs and where we have a throw on the chair in the foyer, he had rubbed against it and had trapped it over his whole body.  He was standing on it and couldn't move but was moving his head back and forth.  He was basically my little ghost doggy.  Then he got excited because I was laughing so hard.  I don't know what I'd do without my pups.

Nothing has really changed on the reading front.  Because I picked up a book on a whim, I'm still working on "Ten Thousand Thunders" and also "The Cheerleaders."

Stacking the Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves or TBR piles, may it be physical or virtual.  This means you cans you cam include books you buy in a physical store, online, books you borrow from the library or friends, review books, gifts and of course, ebooks! The original meme was started over at Tynga's Reviews. And it now has a new co-host where individuals can link up as well - Marlene from Reading Reality.  Clicking on the book (or title) should take you to the Goodreads page.  I'm also now linking up with the Sunday Post which is hosted by Kimberly@Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I went to what I call my not-so-local library today (which is still less than 5 miles away).  They recently broke up with our county library - aka went out on their own - so I had to get a library card just for them.  Their new borrowing times are 30 days at a time with 2 renewal as long as there are no holds.  I don't know why they have to be different from the other two but they do.  While I was there I grabbed "The Elizas," "Strays Like Us," and "One of Us."

Next up are a few review copies.  "After the Fire" seems kind of dark as does "The Lady in the Cellar" which is described as True Crime.  Next the pups are representing the cozy murder books "The Novel Art of Murder" and "A Midwinter's Tail."  I love the Bethany Blake series so much I have to admit it's hard not to start that one already.

So how was your week.  Read or watch anything interesting?  And what new books did you add to your shelves?

  1. I don't mind which way you do these posts Barb-whichever works best for you is fine by me! I plan to watch The Purge films for the first time next month so I hope I like them. This weekend I'm glued to the TV watching the Ryder Cup and trying to squeeze in a couple of films or catch up on some TV I recorded.

    1. I hope you enjoy The Purge. Seems we've been recording a lot and then working them in. It's definitely a good time of year for TV.

  2. My dog Otis loves sleeping under blankets and a lot of times when he gets up, he brings the blanket with him. I recently put a photo of him on Instagram doing his "ghost" impression. Dogs are the best!

    1. Yes, I didn't realize it was non-fiction but it still sounds pretty good.

  4. I haven't watched any of the Purge movies but I need to try at least one. :) The Elizas looks good and three of your grabs for review look very familiar! :)

    1. I read the first chapter and I'm already hooked - but it's gonna have to wait a while.

  5. I have no preference- whatever works best for you. I know I used to do a separate Sunday Post and It's Monday! What Are You Reading, and I ended up combining those (and then stacking the Shelves) into my one weekend post, and I love it. But there's something to be said too for keeping them separate and letting them be their own things.

Ooh The Cheerleaders- I need to get to that one.

    1. I finished The Cheerleaders over the weekend and I definitely think you'd like it. Hope to get my review up soon - I'm kind of behind.

  6. I was really curious about One of Us. But then I read some reviews that made me think it might not be for me, or that I would have to be in a certain mood to try it. I'd be curious to hear what you think.

    1. I think it will make me sad - which I don't think is the purpose. I may not get to it this time around but wanted to grab it just in case. Hope no one wants it so I can renew it at least.

  7. If I put a blanket on Dexter he will just stand there, like he isn't sure what to do or will run around the house with it drapped over his body if it gets stuck. The kittens think he is odd. lol

The Purge freaks me out, I am not sure I can watch that but I heard the show is pretty good.

Have a great week, Barb! Happy Reading!

    1. They say that putting a blanket over a dog and seeing if he tries to get out is part of a dog intelligence test. I don't know what that would tell us about Booker T or Dexter. I think The Purge is a tad too realistic now a days with the state the world seems in. I can see somebody thinking it would be a brilliant idea.

  8. I like how you do your post. Whatever works best for you:) Yeah, our dogs sure make life silly. Quigley got tangled up in the cords to my computer and froze. Looked like he thought he might get electrocuted. LOL I've been watching lots of thrillers and horror movies. Tis that time of year!

    1. Thanks Laura. I think I'll probably mix it up depending on what else I have going on with the blog. I bet Quigley looked so cute. Maybe he realized he could make things worse by moving around.

  9. your so lucky to have two libraries near you! my town does have a great library though. However, I do wish they had more audio book options. Your cozy mysteries with the pups on them look cute. I haven't ever read cozy mysteries but you are slowly convincing me.

    1. We actually have three but one is just a branch. I do realize how lucky I am. Yes, you definitely should try at least one pup centered cozy!

  10. A lot of bloggers combine memes on their blogs. I do it with my wrap-up post and Stacking the Shelves, and I sometimes put the Top Ten in my Tell Me Tuesday. These three work fine together because they are similar, so I say go for it and change up your Friday post. We need to keep blogging fun for ourselves! 😊

Your Booker story was hilarious. 😁

I have One of Us, but I don't know when I'll get to it. 📚

    Have a wonderful week. 🌞

  12. Aw, thanks for the puppy story---it made me laugh, too ♥ Why are so many library systems breaking up lately!? We used to be part of a 17-library system and the county we were partnered with decided to go their own way so they could implement a different cataloging program. It was a mess and really it was such an inconvenience for our customers. You got a great haul, though---Lady in the Cellar has such a pretty cover!

    1. I don't know why and I can honestly say, I do not like the new system of the one that recently branched out. The online catalog is almost impossible to navigate.

  13. Our county library has never been part of the larger regional system, so for over 15 years, I've been paying a yearly fee to use the regional library (about 25-30 minutes away.) Their collection is huge, and I can request any book or movie in the system and have it sent to the branch closest to me for pickup. Recently our county library debated joining the regional system and turned it down, which I think was a huge mistake.

Your cozy mysteries look fun! I've been looking at them over at NetGalley and thinking about requesting, but I've already got a lot of review books to read...

  14. Not too long ago we had a ghost dog at our house. Cookie rubbed agains the couch and got a throw wrapped around herself. I didn't know whether I should help her or just laugh. (I did both) Nice new reads. There are few libraries around here that are separate from the big system which seems odd to me.

  15. I’ve been watching the Purge TV show, too. I still need to see the movies. Enjoy your new books! I’m envious that you got After The Fire. I really want to read that one. Happy October!

  16. Well personally, I like them combined so it's easier for me to get all the info at once. I like the look of your new books. Do you have access to both libraries or just the one that broke up with the county? I have my local library which sucks, my old MN library which I access because I still have property there ( pay property taxes), and my brother's library cuz he never uses it so he got me a card. I do them online anyway so there are no fines or anything. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. I have access to both but I used to just have one account for both and now I have 2 cards, 2 accounts, etc. Plus they have different loan periods. So strange.

  17. Haha, I love ghost doggy. My dog's favourite (or is it my favourite) thing at the momeLfront of it - he keeps stepping on hem and then just goes into a cycle of pushing his head up and down but making no progress. I suppose I could get up and help him but it just cracks me up.
