Author Renee George Visits The Farm

From Renee George:
I am a USA Today Bestselling author who writes paranormal mysteries and romances because I love all things whodunit, Otherworldly, and weird. Also, I wish my pittie, the adorable Kona Princess Warrior, and my beagle, Josie the Incontinent Princess, could talk. Or at least be more like Scooby-Doo and help me unmask villains at the haunted house up the street.

When I'm not writing about mystery-solving werecougars or the adventures of a hapless psychic living among shapeshifters, I am preyed upon by stray kittens who end up living in my house because I can't say no to those sweet, furry faces. (Someone stop telling them where I live!)

I live in Mid-Missouri with my family and I spend my non-writing time doing really cool stuff...like watching TV and cleaning up dog poop.

1.  You have been writing since 2005.  Do you ever have a shortage of idea's or get writer's block?  If so, how do you handle it?  Can you share your writing process?

Hi Barb!  I can honestly say there is never a shortage of ideas.  If anything, I have too many ideas and it always seems that when I am working on one story, another one is playing around in my head.  As to the writer's block, oh my gosh, all the time.  Sometimes every word can feel like walking through quicksand...until it doesn't.  *grin* When I have writer's block I just keep putting one word in front of the other, even if it's bad.  I find that forcing myself to write, even when my muse is taking a vacation, will get the story going again.  I'm a pantser not a plotter, which means, I write a story with only a basic idea or where I'm starting and where I'm finishing, so when writer's block happens, it can feel like the sky is falling.

2.  You have numerous series going on such as the Magic and Mayhem Mysteries,  the Peculiar Mysteries, and my personal fave The Barkside of the Moon series.  Do you have a favorite to write for? Who are some of your favorite characters?

All three of those series are fun to write.  The Witchin' Impossible: Magic and Mayhem books are finished now.  It concluded at book four, but I just released book six in the Peculiar Mysteries, "Furred Lines" and I have to say, it was the fun I've had writing in a while.  Now as you know, the Barkside of the Moon series has a very special place in my heart.  The books were inspired by my real life Smooshie, my lovable pittie Kona.  The minute I saw her I was in love.  She has inspired me to help raise breed awareness, human rescue shelters, and dog fostering.  I donate 10% of my royalties every month to www.mopitbullrescue.org, a no-kill shelter that recently completed building a new shelter that would provide for even more dogs to be rescued.  They are amazing. Wow, sorry.  I didn't mean to go off on a tangent, I'm just really passionate about the cause.  Right now, the Barkside of the Moon series is unavailable as they are getting facelifts with new covers and new titles, but they will be rereleased in March, culminating with the release of the long-awaited third book!  I will make sure you get all the information.

3.  What new books or plans do you have on the horizon?  You know I need more Smooshie in my life.  Do you know how many books you have planned in that particular series?

I am currently starting a new series called "Hell's Belle," a three book series with mystery and romance.  Right now, the third book in Barkside of the Moon is happening for sure!  I am currently finishing the WIP  to get to my editor.  I love it and want many more books with Lily and Smooshiem, but it will depend on what happens with the new release.  I have my fingers and toes crossed, along with a marketing plan.

4.  Who are some of your favorite authors and do you have any all-time favorite books?  What are you currently reading?

Charlaine Harris is my #1 favorite author.  I love her Grave Sight, Sookie Stackhouse, Shakespeare, and Aurora Teagarden mystery series.  However, my all-time favorite books are a high-fantasy series by the late, great David Eddings (co-written by his wife Leigh) called The Belgariod and the follow up series, The Mallorean.  It is ten books that I have read a dozen times over the past thirty years.  I wish they would put them in ebook format so I could take them everywhere.

5.  This question is from my co-blogger, Booker T:  What 4-legged children do you share your home with and do they help or hinder your writing process?  Also, I've pretty much decided that Smooshie is Cass's "book girlfriend."  Do you think she'd be interested in a hyperactive Brindle boxer who is loyal but a tad unpredictable?

Smooshie would ROCK Cass's world! LOL!  I have four furbabies -  Kona, the lovable brindle and white pit breed, Josie, the tiny, unsociable beagle princess, Simon the cat who showed up on my porch this summer, only 5 weeks old and starving.  My cat of 22 years had died in February, and Simon was the spitting image of my Thumper.  It was like she decided I needed another cat.  Then Ash, another stray, who was nine months old, showed up in my yard three weeks later.  Kona adopted Ash so we had to keep her. LOL.

Booker T and I want to thank Renee for stopping by.  It's been fun seeing how passionate she is about her writing as well as the animals in her life.  You can follow Renee at the following links;

Renee has kindly shared some pictures of her pet family and below you will also see some of her fun series covers.
