Stacking the Shelves (64) - Feast or Famine

Not even gonna make excuses......it would do not good.  However, I do have an observation.  Have you ever noticed that books come in groups?  Seems whenever I request some books at the library, they all arrive within a week of each other which adds a lot of weight to my TBR and results in multiple trips to said library where I usually end up browsing the new releases and find even more books screaming to come home with me.  And can we discuss Netgalley?  What's up with requesting books and then for months you hear nothing, so you think, OK, didn't get approved, so you venture over and request a few more, and then the back requests pour in.  Am I the only one experiencing these dilemmas?

Anyways, here is my massive library haul.  However, as long as no one else requests them, I can keep them 9 weeks and then an additional 2 before any fines come do.  See, I know how the system works.

Wake of Vultures The Poison Arist Kill the Boy Band City of the Lost
Night Shift A Court of Mist and Fury The Crooked House Bliss

I grabbed "Bliss" totally on impulse because Shay Mitchell helped write it and I really enjoy her on "Pretty Little Liars." But it has really mixed reviews so who knows. I also want to give "A Court of Mist and Fury" a chance even though the last book was disappointing until I reached the last third. I have heard this is better and hey, if I don't get to it, it's HUGE so it will make a nice doorstop in the meantime. I can't wait to get to "Night Shift" and by the way, does anyone know if this is the last in this series?

For review I received the following:

The Other Einstein Red Right Hand Child of the Dead Cracked to Death
Braineater Jones Weregirl Unlucky Charms Girl in the Shadows

At least some of these don't come out until later this summer or early fall. I had to grab "Braineater Jones" after seeing it on another blog.  And come on, who can resist the cover on "Weregirl."

So,  it was a productive 2 weeks on the book front.  I also bought some books (big surprise), found some great Kindle freebies, and won a giveaway, but I will save that for next week.

So what did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. I don't use the local library. Our library charges you money to order each book which is annoying on a budget and I'd need to order every book I want as they are years behind the times and don't stock the genres I read! Bummer! Looks like I need a new plan as I've run out of shelf space in my room again and I already have too many bookcases! *sigh* Enjoy your book pile!

  2. Wow, you got a great haul. I have that experience at least on Netgalley. I think I am not getting them and then bam they all release to me at once...I think the publishers get together and say lets load'em up! :)

    Enjoy,

  3. Great library haul! I really need to read the new series by Charlaine Harris. I was so mad at how the Sookie series ended that I haven't read her since then. I do agree that books seem to show up in waves. All of my library requests seem to come at the same time and NetGalley approvals seem to come in waves. It drives me crazy when books I gave up on get approved months later - same with wishes being granted. Good crazy but crazy nonetheless. Have a great week and enjoy these books!

  5. I want to read A Court of Mist and Fury, but it's nothing urgent. The first book was good, but didn't 'wow' me.

I have the first book in Charlaine Harris' new series, but didn't have a chance to read it yet.

    Great haul! Happy Reading!

  8. Oh oh I DEFINITELY concur that books always come in groups! AHHH IT'S SO STRESSFUL SOMETIMES. XD I always get a TON of unsolicited review-copies from publishers all at once. :O It's very overwhelming. And then I'll get nothing for ages so....gah. Why can't they be spread out so I have more time?!? hehe. and libraries DEFINITELY send all the reserves in at once, omg. Right now I'm like squashed beneath 10+ library books, not to mention a ginormous TBR of my own. HALP. (But at least too-many-books is better than not-enough...right?!) I hope you enjoy all of these! :D

  11. I'm reading Braineater Jones right now! I'm only like 10% in, but it's such a unique take on zombies. And I'm really excited for Girl in the Shadows but haven't started yet.

I totally get what you're saying about the Netgalley books coming in groups. The other week I had three approvals in one day even though one was from over a month ago, one was from like a week ago, and one was that very day. So it was a weird coincidence.

Anyway, enjoy your books! I'll be looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the two books we have in common :-)
