What's Happening (03-21-20)...

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So what's happening?  The world is falling apart apparently.  And more than that, I guess some people haven't received the memo yet.  However, this is my happy place so let's not dwell on things.  We can only control our part right?

I had training for two days at the beginning of the week.  Personally I think it should have been canceled but it wasn't so with driving and everything I had two 10 1/2 hour days.  The only plus is that I left at noon on Friday.  It wore me out though.

Apollo had his next set of shots and finally got to see our regular vet, who is working from a wheelchair right now.  Mr. Barb took him as I was in training and all went well.  He weighs 41 pounds.  Cassius is still doing great as well but I know that pup is wearing him out sometimes.

I did read some but not as much as I wanted.  However, I posted three reviews this week which I'm happy about.  I have to go check on Grandpa this weekend but besides that I want to watch TV and read.  I think the second half of "The Walking Dead" this season has drastically improved and while I stand by my opinion that I think it has gone on long enough, I am enjoying it more.  We didn't really watch many movies - that will happen this weekend.  I did start watching "Shameless" from the beginning as all seasons are on Netflix and I didn't start watching it until around season 5 on Showtime.  I love watching all that family dysfunction.  Here's the books I'll be picking up this weekend.

I actually picked up some holds from one of my libraries.  They are providing curbside service Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-5 so I ran out on lunch.  I even managed to do an Instagram shot!

I also received a few digital arcs. I'm thrilled to get my hands on Misfits, the next Hunter Shea novel from Flame Tree Press.  Mistress of Illusions is a series I've wanted to start and since I'm only a book behind, now is a good time to do it.   I've been seeing The Goddess Twins around on Booktube so I am excited to give it a try and Gone With the Whisker looked too fun to pass it up.

So how was your week?  Did you read or watch anything I should check out?  Also, I hope you're all staying safe!

PS - Cassius is considering quarantine.  He said to tell you guys he needs a break from the pup!

  1. That is so great that your library is doing curbside, mine has closed and everything is online. I do most of my borrowing through overdrive anyway, but it would have been nice to get some books for the kids while they are stuck at home. I have been eyeing Hunter Shea's new book which I saw pop up on NetGalley earlier in the week! So tempted! I'm sure I'll cave before long though :)

    1. I use both physical books and Overdrive a lot. You are right, I think the library would be such a valuable resource now for all the kids being schooled at home and for children's books. I understand why they are closed though. There's just no easy solution.

  2. How crazy your employer is being, getting you coming in for training. So pointless considering the circumstances! I doubt he'll let you stay home even if Trump orders him to do so!!! Good to hear that Apollo is doing well though I understand Cass longing for a bit of respite! Give Cass a big hug from me!

    1. That's kind of my thoughts too. I will definitely give Cass a hug from Auntie Chuckles.

  3. I have a ton of stuff waiting at the library when it reopens, but have plenty of arcs and books on my shelves to keep me busy for years. I should give Shameless a shot. I've heard great things. Stay well!

    1. Yes, one time when we can really justify hoarding books right! Maybe I'll get through my library books now that they don't have a due date.

  4. I was very tempted by the new Hunter Shea, but for now I'm waiting to hit that request button. Stay safe, Barb. And I'm so glad the virus doesn't affect dogs, or I'd be a mess!

    1. But you know what better time? You've always wanted to read him and it would be good to treat yourself right now. I totally know what you mean about pets. I'd be a basketcase and I don't know that I'm far from it anyway.

  5. Glad you're hanging in there. And that you have good books to read. And cute dogs to play with. Have a good weekend! :)

    1. Sometimes it's nice to read things you WANT to read instead of books we want to read but also HAVE to.

  7. What a busy week! We've been absolutely slow. It's spring break this week. I'm ok with the quarantine.

I hope you stay safe and healthy! Enjoy those new reads!

    1. Yes, I usually avoid people as much as possible and now I'm REALLY avoiding them.

  9. I can't believe you still had training last week! That's crazy! Our libraries are closed right now. I think it is wonderful that you were able to get a pile of books. Apollo is getting big! We haven't taken Piper to the vet since she was pretty little so I have no idea what she weighs right now. Have a great week and enjoy all of your new books!

    1. Yep, gotta hoard all the books I can right? Apollo is due to his last round of shots in another month - provided we can go outside right?

  10. That's great that your library is doing curbside service! Mine is completely closed, even the book drops!

    1. I guess if they aren't coming in, they don't want the drops to get too full. The one library I use that has closed completely issued a statement to just keep things until they resume services.

  11. Glad you guys are going well! I'm also getting wicked frustrated by the people not taking this seriously, but I'm certainly staying home! With asthma, I don't want to risk it for myself, but I most certainly don't want to risk spreading it to others that are higher risk than me.

    Stay safe <3

    1. It is frustrating. Mr. Barb is high risk - to a point. He has asthma and diabetes but both are under control right now. Unfortunately he is considered "essential staff" because he works for the Department of Corrections. I heard someone call the people COVIDiots which I think is perfect.

  12. Getting shots is never fun but it'll be over soon. Hopefully the news around the world will be better soon.

  13. Glad your week wasn't to bad even with all the traveling. That is cool that your library will do curbside pick up, ours won't! Hope you like all the books!

  14. Cass has the patience of a Saint. Srsly, baby siblings can be too much! God, your training days sound neverending -- i'm glad they're done and dusted and you don't have to travel anymore.i hope your Grandpa is doing ok with everything going on. SOme interesting titles too -- my eyes keep getting dranw back to BlackWood -- that's a very lonely and ominous cover.

    1. Yes he does and we tell him that daily. Gpa seems to be doing well and I think he understands why he needs to avoid people now. It's hard to explain to him everything that has been going on.

  15. Looks like you got some good books from your library! looking forward to seeing what you think of The Boatman's Daughter. Oooh, I had been eyeing Mistress of Illusions, too, since it sounded so good! Can't wait to see what you think of that, too. :) Looks like a good little haul.
