Friday Reads (04/21/17)

I want to thank everyone who tolerated and even commented and enjoyed some of the Prince posts from the past few weeks.  I know this week was kind of heavy with them, but as he passed a year ago today, I wanted to make sure to do some things to remember him this week.  I have pretty much used up all my ideas though so that's all the Prince posts for now.  However, do expect to see some books in some upcoming hauls.

Last weekend was nice and restful.  I took Grandpa on a mini-trip last Friday while Mr. Barb was working and then he came up for Easter dinner Sunday.  With the cousins still at the house, he really needed to get out so I'm glad he felt he could come visit us.  The boys got new Easter presents - a bunny and a parrot and enjoyed seeing Grandpa as well.

We also managed to watch a few movies this week that in my opinion, at least didn't suck.  First we watched a new horror flick called "The Void."  It was kind of reminiscent of 80's horror and I can say I practically loved it.  If you are a horror fan, please consider checking it out.  Then we watched the new Jamie Foxx film, "Sleepless."  It's an action film about dirty and undercover cops in Las Vegas and although it's never going to be winning any awards, it was quite entertaining.

So tonight I will be watching "Purple Rain" and some older videos while chilling with a mixed drink or two.  Mr. Barb works this weekend so I plan in doing some errands, visiting Grandpa and then having Chinese with Mom for lunch Sunday.  Needless to say I want to cram some reading in so here's what's up on the stack - lots of great looking books!

So how was your week and what are you planning on reading over the weekend???

  1. I've enjoyed your Prince posts! I'm not a mega fan like you but I liked his music, and I've found it pretty interesting to see what posts you were doing about him. I don't feel you overloaded the blog or anything and it is your blog so you should do the stuff you want to do!

Y'know I wish I could come over and sort out your cousin problem for your poor grandpa...

    1. I wish you could too. It's been a fairly smooth week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Right now one of them needs to get a job so they can start saving and move the heck out!

  2. I'm going to be gone this weekend to my daughter's choir competition, which means little or no reading:-( I am so far behind, I'm actually thinking of taking a short blogging break. My son is graduating from high school and I'm so busy until June. What to do??? I'm trying to get to Brimstone too but so far no luck. Hope you're reading goes better than mine!

    1. Enjoy the competition. Sounds like you will be busy. I started Brimstone and got through the first three chapters. I liked it but had to put it aside because I have a blog tour book to read and a buddy read and I need to get them done first!

    1. Thanks, yea I'm probably one of those annoying superfans. I remember being young and Elvis died and my mom was in mourning for weeks (he died on her wedding anniversary - lucky Dad!). I'm not quite that that bad but it does make me feel like it came full circle!

  4. I'm a fan of Prince too. So sad to lose him so young. I see you got Thorn Jack. How did I miss that one? First I heard of it was you and Stormi.

  5. Sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned and you have not posted too many Prince posts. I love reading them.

My plans are heading to Trader Joe's, prepping food and yard work - if the rain ever stops and squeezing some reading in. Last weekend was too social for my introverted self and I need some time to myself!

    1. We had some rain yesterday but today is better. My husband is planning on taking a tree down Monday so I'll be glad if it dries out some.

  7. I've fallen behind on my reading, so I'm gonna try to do quite a bit of cramming this weekend as well. I wish you luck with Brimstone! Been hearing such mixed things about it, I really have no idea what to expect.

  8. It is so nice that you are able to spend time with your Grandpa. I do hate that the cousins are still giving him trouble. I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. I'm grateful that he is still able to get around at 95 pretty well. The cousins are behaving themselves for now, but I don't expect it to last long.

  9. I enjoyed every moment of your Prince extravaganza! :) I'm sorry I was such a Prince neophyte I couldn't make more intelligent comments about his career.
Of course I'll watch "The Void." now. If you liked it I probably will :) I think I mentioned I LOVED Wytches!
