TTT - Book Covers That Scream Fall!

This top 10 weekly meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and can be found HERE.  Each week they focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

This week's topic is book covers that remind us of fall.  Well, fall reminds me of Halloween, which reminds me of horror, and I've been really interested in locating copies of older horror novels I've seen on blogs and booktubes so I'm sharing with you the covers of 10 horror books I want to read next year which remind me of Fall!  Wow, that was a mouth full!

The Bad Room - Christopher Cook Gilmore. "There are some doors through which you must never pass...."

The Dogs - Robert Calder. An abandoned pup from an experimental canine development installation.  (But the cover reminds me of a cat)

Haunted - James Herbert.  I actually wanted to read "Ash" but then found out it's #3 in a series so I need to start here.

The Streeter - Scott Ian Barry.  Dogs who become insane from toxic waste and then start hunting humans - GO DOGS!  (oops, did I say that aloud?)

Cold Moon Over Babylon - Michael McDowell.   " ...traffic lights flash an eerie blue, a ghostly hand slithers from the drain of a kitchen sink, graves erupt from the local cemetery in an implacable march of terror..."

The Halloween Tree - Ray Bradbury. Look at that awesome cover.

Amara - Richard Laymon.  I first saw this over at Chuckles Book Cave and been looking for a copy ever since.  I may have finally located one.

A Devil in Silver - Victor LaValle.  Features a terrifying creature with the body of an old man and the head of a bison.  Sign me up!

Under the Skin - E.E. Richardson. The cover kind of sold me on this one.  That and the concept of a ritual crime unit.

Frankenstein's Dog - R.R. Stein.  I just HAVE to have this one!

So there you have it. Fall books!  And if that doesn't actually remind you of Fall....

This was my dog Barkley.  We lost him about 4 years ago.  He's dressed up in a "Flash" superhero costume I made him (lightening bolt on front) and he's shredding a pumpkin.  He LOVED to shred pumpkins each year!

And this was Cooper the same Halloween.  He was dressed as Underdog but he took his cape off before the picture was snapped.  He had NO interest in pumpkin shredding.

    1. Thanks Anna. We lost Cooper 4 years ago and Barkley 3 - pet lovers never seem to get over that sort of thing huh?

  3. You have some scary dog covers here! Yikes! I do like the RL Stine one, though!

LOVE the pictures of your pups! Conan had a Superman outfit that was really adorable. I'm not sure if we're going to try to dress Alohi up for her first Halloween -- she's weird about having stuff on her. I did see a pair of devil wings at Target that would be PERFECT... ;)

    1. Alohi would make the cutest little devil! I always tease my husband that Booker T has a golden halo (he NEVER gets in trouble - even if he does something because he is hubby's dog) and Cass has horns!

  4. awww so funny Barley liked to shred pumpkins! The pics are adorable. I have a thing for skulls so my fav would have to be Cold Moon Over Babylon!

    1. I've heard really good and creepy things about that book and the author in general. I'm interested in trying him out.

  5. I read The Devil in Silver and loved it! I need to know more about pumpkin shredding. Do you break the pumpkin up first? This sounds like a great way to keep the dogs busy, plus pumpkin is good for dogs, right?

    1. Usually they shred the carved one - we really only carve a day of two before Halloween - enough for Trick-or-Treat night so they are still fresh. Barkley, T and Cass will find the openings and just go to it. They love it and pumpkin is good for them. It can make a REALLY big mess though but it's tons of fun.

  6. I was a huge fan of the Goosebumps series in my teens, but I don't remember reading "Frankenstein's Dog". Just thinking about it too much could give nightmares. Can you tell I'm not into horror books anymore? C:

  9. My dogs hate wearing costumes! I gave up years ago dressing them up. Your books look super scary. The Ray Bradbury is my favorite!

  10. Your dogs were so gorgeous...I love that photo of Cooper. He has wonderful markings on his face. So cute. You must miss them both like crazy. Still, Booker T and Cass will give you some great joy too.

I really do need to get Amara read...I've been promising myself I'd read it for years now!

    1. Cooper was truly beautiful. We called him our Gentle Giant. He had the personality of a St. Bernard and when he would see the two that lived near us, I couldn't help but think he thought he was one.

  12. Those are some creepy covers! I used to read tons of horror, but I've become a big wimp in my old age. I'll definitely be reading lots of mystery/suspense this Fall -- I'm going to stay away from ghosts and goblins, though.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  14. Now this is a list I love to see. I have a destructive pup. I wonder what she would do with a pumpkin? Probably nothing. A couch, yes, she would rip that up. A pumpkin...actual food... probably not.

    1. Cooper ate a couch! Seriously, we made so many couch repairs and fixes until he grew out of the stage I swore I could build one on my own. It took us a while to figure out he suffered from separation anxiety and that was why he was so destructive. I was always worried he would hurt himself.
