TTT - Leave Me Alone So I Can Read!

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but starting this week, they are handing over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

This week's topic is "Books That Awaken the Travel Bug in Me."  Now I don't particularly care about traveling.  I honestly rather be home with Mr. Barb and the pups.  There are a few places I'd like to visit one day but if I don't get to, hey I'm content.  But sometimes I feel like I spread myself too thin, especially during the summer, which then cuts into my reading time.  So this week I'm sharing with you "Books I Could Read If People Left Me Alone!"  This could be on my back porch or on a deserted island (well, with pups).  It really doesn't matter.

Game of Thrones

The Stand

Swan Song

Prince and the Purple Rain Studio Era

Demon King

So basically these are books that are longer than 500 pages.  I am not afraid of big books but when I am busy, I feel like it takes me forever to read them.  So if people would leave me alone, I might be able to get these read.

  1. The Stand is one of my favorite Stephen King books! I also have Swan Song but never read it lol. The Prince book surprises me as I figure you would make time for him! :)

    1. Can you believe I've not read The Stand yet? I'm sure I'll like the book much better than the movie. I think I have so many Prince books that's it hard to figure out where to start. Plus, this one is a real chunker!

    1. Thanks Erica. I am not intimidated by large books but they do take some time. Especially when life gets in the way.

  3. I keep wanting to read the Game of Thrones books, but I never seem to have the time to start them. Now I'm in the middle of a reading slump and that goal seems even less achievable!

    1. I am hesitant because Martin seems to be dragging his feet on finishing them. If he can't finish them, then I don't see where I'll have much luck!

  4. Yes to Game of Thrones and The Stand! Loved both of those books. I like being at home too-surrounded by my cuddly toys, books and tv! Nice choice of topic.

    1. Thanks. Yep, I think lots of people have some long books they've been putting off.

  6. I'm right there with you, I'd much rather stay home with my dogs and let my family do the traveling! I have to go to Boston in September to take my daughter to college and I'm terrified!

    1. Good luck going to Boston. I'm sure it will be fun going with her but also sad as well.

  7. I would like to reread The game of Thrones books but they are so long it would take forever I feel it would take all summer!!!

  8. I like the change in the topic - though I love to travel. if I could sell all my belongings and Eleanor and I could just travel the globe, that would be amazing.

  9. I honestly can't be bothered to read the Game of Thrones books, they're so big and I would probably have to dedicate years of my life to get through them. I'm quite content to watch the TV show on this one!

    1. I'd like to read them but I am having a hard time being motivated especially since it seems the author can't be bothered to finish them.

  10. Game of Thrones and The Stand are definitely massive (although also definitely worth a read if you can find the time and the solitude!)

Have a great week. - Katie

    1. The Stand is higher on the priority than GoT.

  11. Game of Thrones *nods* yeah you need some downtime to tackle that bad boy. :) Although the relatively short chapters do make it easier... if the chapters were super long it would be unbearable! I'll bet the Prince book is fascinating!

    1. I think the short chapters would help some. But I'd have to start drawing family trees to keep everyone straight.

  12. I have most of these on my tbr list but haven't started them for the same reason. I have listened to a 1500 page book but it took me forever. I find it hard to talk myself into starting some of these longer works.

    1. Audio books tend to make me sleepy. I'd feel like Rip van Winkle if I listed to one that long!

  13. Not surprised to find a Stephen King novel on your list. A lot of his books require some serious commitment. Hope you got lots of alone time in the future.

  14. I love traveling, but I also hate the hassle of it, but I'm probably saying this now because I have young children. These days, a staycation sounds just as enticing.

  15. I finally got around to reading The Stand and I'm quite glad I did. Game of Thrones was also something of an experience but I can't say for sure it was a good one. lol

  16. I read the Stand quite a while ago and oh my gosh, it is amazing! Randall Flagg is one of the best villains I have read :) Have you seen the movie that goes with it?

  17. Well these do seem like some massive reads. I hope people leave you be for the summer and you devour them! My Top Ten

  18. Big books scare me off. Lately I've been getting through some chunkers via audio. I can speed up the narration and get them done in 1/2 the time :)

    1. I don't mind big books, but like to have the time to devote to them. I hate it when it takes me longer than a week to read a book - too many good ones out there.

  19. Love this twist. You're right, the longer books can take forever when everyone wants your attention. Fabulous list. I've read a few on there, but sadly not all. Most of the books I read are around 300 pages, that's my happy page spot!

    1. That's a good mark. I think I've read a lot this year in the 400 page mark but I'm okay with that.

  20. I love chunky books, but I've gotten a little scared to start them lately. I seem to even struggle with the short books these days!
