Cassius' Homecoming Tale

Hey guys, it's me Cass.  Today I wanted to share with you my homecoming tale.  Mom has told it to me on several occasions so I'm sure I can get it right.

Mom and Dad suffered two pretty big losses the year before I came to live with her.  Mom's dad passed away and then they lost their third boxer, Cooper.  Around Christmas, mom started browsing the net and getting a feel for puppies that might be out there - even though there were no real intentions of buying one (do you see a theme in our family?).  Dad knew Mom was feeling a tad empty and wanted to do something to cheer her up.  Anyway, Mom found a litter of 4 nearby, 2 males and 2 females, and even showed Dad pictures, but when she called, they were all spoken for.  Mom was kind of bummed but Dad said they'd keep looking.  Well about a week later, Mom was at work when the owner (or as Mom says my Foster Mom because she's my Real Mom) called her at work and said I was available if she still wanted me.  Apparently a young lady had wanted me and was to put a deposit on me.  She was having a hard time coming up with the deposit and was late.  That got the owner thinking that if she couldn't do that then maybe she wouldn't be able to care for me as well as the owner wanted, so she decided to cancel her "contract."  Mom's birthday was coming up so as a gift, Dad got me for her and I came home two weeks later!  The owner said she had a good feeling about Mom from the minute she first called (she saw us playing in the park 2 years later and stopped and visited.  She said she always knew I got the best home of the whole liter. She also shared with Mom and Dad that my natural Mom was also obsessed with birds).

It was snowing when Mom and Dad picked me up and when I first arrived home, I couldn't get enough of the stairs - I played on them for at least 2 hours.  I quickly became attached to Mom and Dad and my brothers Barkley and Booker T, but Mom was my fave.  She gives the best snuggles and loves me even when I'm ornery (which I'm not and I REALLY regret trying to eat my brother).

So that's the story of how Mom saved me and how I saved her.  I came home on her birthday so I really think the whole thing was meant to be.

    1. That certainly describes him. But he has so much love in his eyes. It's like melting in chocolate.

  5. It sounds like it was meant to be :) Much better than the story of my daughter dropping my Molly on her head as a puppy so that we felt obligated to adopt her.

    1. I almost choked when I read you comment. Well, that's one way for a kid to wrangle a pet out of a parent.

  7. I like that your foster mother put your well-being before money and changed her plans to ensure you got the best home! I think ending up at the farm was definitely meant to be for you Cass!

  10. Love this. Doesn't it seem that dog coming home stories always seem to be "meant to be stories"?

    1. Yep. We've owned 5 dogs during our marriage and all of them were meant to be.
